Johnson, and Trevinos attorney, John Conard, have said they could call about 55 witnesses between them. The sergeant is the prosecutions 42nd witness, but its unclear how many witnesses, if any, the defense will call. Also unclear is whether Trevino will testify, but he must decide by Monday if hell take the stand.
District Court Judge Leonardo Castro told jurors that the tentative schedule is to have them return Friday afternoon, Monday morning and Tuesday morning, with closing arguments possible on Tuesday. The jury will be sequestered for deliberations.
McKenzie Anderson, a DNA scientist with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, began her testimony Wednesday afternoon under direct questioning by Johnson. She told the court that several spots of suspected blood from the couples master bedroom, home and Stegers car trunk matched Stegers DNA.
