UPDATE: Jail records show Mall of America attack suspect now being held on murder charge. We’ve yet to receive an update on the child’s condition @KSTP

Sadly, if the criminal charge is murder vs. attempted murder, the charge itself actually does indirectly provide an update on the child's condition.

I do not see a child surviving this and if the child does, it will not be without permanent damage. In my non expert opinion.

What is wrong with people these days?

This is just sickening. He just grabbed a random child. Poor baby and his family. Mindblowing.

They walk amongst us.

It is going to come to the point the only thing you can do is take your family and visit other family or stay home. Sadly also, the very popular spots and attractions also attract more and more criminals.

Tourist areas, airports, amusement parks, the Mall of America, we can go on and on.

Just stay home, get a major security system, shop online and watch out for the delivery man too.

This sickens me.

This poor family, this poor child. <modsnip: unconfirmed info>

Let's see how he fares in prison throwing things at other prisoners...

Omg.
Just checked this thread now to see how the little one was doing. :(

Heartbroken for the family ....and enraged at the disgusting demonic 🤬🤬🤬 <modsnip: unconfirmed info>

Please don't let the courts go easy on him if the perp has a mental illness.
I have a feeling the defense will use mental issues as this man has been disruptive before.
Other people struggle with mental issues like bi-polar and schizophrenia, and they're not out murdering anyone.

If he had had a history of violence why wasn't he in a mental institution?

Didn’t work out to well for Jayme Closs or Elizabeth Smart

Where are these institutions? People are given meds but no one makes them take them. They are out in public

Agreed. That is why I said also need a security system and do not even trust the delivery man.

Who would put him there and keep him there? It just doesn't happen. He certainly had enough "anger" incidents one would think something would be done but...

Our system is broken, there is no doubt.

(I hate this thread so much! :( :( :()

All of these cases here are so horrible of course, abductions, rapes...this case has neither, yet it feels like “the case” that could actually send me over the edge as far as leaving WS forever. (I’m not going to but I really thought about it :( ). This poor little one and his family! This is beyond traumatizing!! There are no words for the kind of horrific shock and grief this would cause. Sorry I’m having a hard time finding the words — all family members suffer from the pain of the loved ones they’ve lost via violent crimes...the way this would have had to have gone down, one minute you’re with your precious child and the next minute he’s several stories down covered in blood, fighting for his life, then dies...the senselessness, violence, randomness...

Honestly I really think this case has hit me as one of the hardest ever and that’s saying a lot. Again there is no comparing victims and violence and death because it is ALL BAD. This one is just hitting on a different type of nerve for me, hard to explain.

I’m seriously going to take a break from the threads. Someone please message me if there’s a development in Abby’s/Libby’s case or any others that I follow. Thank you.

(Snipped for focus.)

Let’s please be reasonable about what mental illness is and isn’t. While the overwhelming majority of folks with some kind of clinical diagnosis aren’t violent in any way, the fact is, a few will be — at some point — a threat to themselves and/or others.

I’m not defending this man in any form or fashion, I promise. Frankly, I have no idea if this guy had actually been diagnosed or treated for any sort of mental disorder, ever.

I’m suggesting that perhaps warehousing the most disturbed and violent of the mentally ill (those who meet the actual legal definition of insane) in with general prison populations might not be the most humane, or even most cost-effective, way to administer justice.

Like I said, I don’t have any idea what’s up with this guy mentally. I assume he’s sane, knows right from wrong, committed this crime because he wanted to, and should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Lock him up.
