MN - One dead after Minneapolis shooting involving immigration agents, US media report, January 24, 2026

Two U.S. officials tell CBS News some of the Border Patrol agents involved in the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis had body cameras

Which, unlike in the Renee Good shooting, they haven't released. No doubt because it's even more damming than the footage we've already see.

Administration officials were left deeply frustrated this weekend over how Bovino and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem handled the fallout from the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, sources said. According to one official, Trump spent several hours on Sunday and Monday watching the coverage and was personally unhappy by how his administration was coming across.

Others say that Bovino, who became the face of Trump’s immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota, only made matters worse by claiming Pretti intended to “massacre” federal agents. He sat for an interview with CNN and held a press conference with reporters Sunday, but neither appearance tamped down criticism of the administration’s response and contradictions, officials told CNN.

Senior officials began discussing taking Bovino out of Minnesota Sunday afternoon, according to one senior official.

Bovino will be scapegoated by the very administration whose lies he parroted so faithfully. MOO IMO

Here's hoping Alex had that access and used it!
I am willing to bet his video from that fateful day is sitting on his I-cloud. If it hasn't been disappeared that is.

ICE agents were said to have been pursuing a target before they shot Alex Pretti multiple times but the target escaped into a donut shop. IMO, the agents were mad and didn't maintain self-control after their failure to nab someone, and they took it out frustration on the public watching them. My opinion

If ICE shows up without a warrant, businesses can ask agents to leave — or potentially refuse service based on their own company policy, perhaps citing safety concerns or other disruptions caused by agents' presence. But there's no guarantee immigration officials will comply, especially in public spaces....

Some employers, particularly smaller business owners, are speaking out about ICE's impacts on their workers and customers. ...

Several worker groups have been more outspoken. Ted Pappageorge, secretary-treasurer for a chapter of the Culinary Union in Las Vegas, said members were shocked by a “widening pattern of unlawful ICE behavior” and “recognize that anti-immigrant policies hurt tourism, business, and their families.” ...

“We know that the raids are contributing to things like labor shortages and reduced foot traffic,” Hahn said...

Wow. Just wow.

Certainly says something when the President himself is scrambling and embarrassed by how badly his officials have botched this incident.

The “spin” that was initially attempted regarding the incident has been a total failure. No one is buying that Alex’s death was justified.

I hope this is a moment of reckoning with the agents that killed Alex being charged, and ICE being held to much stricter standards of conduct. Violence and brutality is NOT necessary.

To be clear I question if this is really Alex Pretti? Would his body really be at the VA? Can someone verify this? Sorry if I've posted incorrectly.
Ugh. Good question. I'm here in tears.

No. This is an inpatient ICU. Mr. Pretti was dead in the street. Also, this is likely during COVID as everyone is masked AND there are isolation carts lining the hallway. Which is why Websleuths is so sticky about verified sources.

That's exactly what happened: Noem obvious lies about the Alex Pretti shooting made her boss look bad. That is never a good idea.

New: Top Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino and some of his agents are expected to leave Minneapolis tomorrow and return to their respective sectors, sidelining a key player in the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

I haven’t been able to find mainstream verification of this video either.
I saw it on another platform earlier today and asked for a source but did not get any response just fyi

This is where the problem lies:

"In the hours after the shooting, the Department of Homeland Security alleged that Pretti “violently resisted” disarmament until officers fired “defensive shots.” But bystander footage reviewed by The Wall Street Journal contradicts that version of events. The footage appears to show a federal officer pulling a handgun away from Pretti. Less than a second later, an agent fires several rounds."

Otto, you have to find out what violently resisted means in their speak. In protests in modern Germany you can get arrested and fined for 'defacing public property' or some such wording for locking yourself to some part of a government building like iron railings, in protest. Not gluing, locking. Before I knew of the definitions, I assumed protesters were resorting to graffiti, vandalism, broken windows in what had otherwise been a year-long, massive, non-violent protest in which I also was involved.

I am aware that we are not meant to go off topic, however I am citing an example that I personally know and saying: Find the equivalent in the US!! What is the lowest form of 'violently resisting' in LE-speak? Raising an arm to protect your head?? Remaining standing near BP man?? Helping a fellow protester off the ground? Even standing between fellow protester and BP man?? Or swearing??

@Otto the more you repeat LE-speak w/o knowing the definition used and interpreted by Border Patrol, the more you play into their version of events which even NRA and other institutions/groups of that nature are questioning. And the more you play into BP hands.

They knowingly inserted themselves into an active law enforcement operation. This was not an organic protest that coincidentally occurred at the same location agents were trying to make an arrest. imo

Noem next? This comment is about the shooting of Alex Pretti and the lies the administration told about how/why the shooting happened, justifying the killing of a resident.

CNN cited an official who said Bovino's departure was a "mutual decision." According to CNN's reporting, administration officials were "deeply frustrated" with Bovino and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's handling of the shooting's aftermath, with Bovino alleging that Pretti was planning to "massacre" federal agents.
