MN - One dead after Minneapolis shooting involving immigration agents, US media report, January 24, 2026

I’m in NYC and a participant in organized groups looking out for our undocumented neighbors (and communicating on Signal). Churches! The trainings are predominantly happening in Christian churches. I wouldn’t call it agitators and definitely not paid, though.
Good on you for doing this!
I wouldn't call what you're doing and being trained in 'agitators'. They aren't common or garden protesters or observers. They play a different role. IMO and IME.

Border Czar Tom Homan is scheduled to meet with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Tuesday as state officials demand that immigration enforcement agents leave the city after the second deadly shooting in a month.

Out of respect for representatives of the U.S. Holocaust Museum, I think it would be best not to compare the Holocaust with the deportation of illegal immigrants in the U.S., per the wishes of the leadership of the U.S. Holocaust Museum, as posted in an article above.

JMO

I couldn't agree more with this.

IMO, it would be VERY wrong to "compare the Holocaust with the deportation of illegal immigrants". Personally I would compare the Holocaust with masked, armed goons detaining brown people. Entering private residence without a warrant, taking into custody people without proper IDs walking down public streets. Things such as that.

"Here are some of the GOP senators who are calling for an investigation into Pretti’s death:
  • Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
  • Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina
  • Sen. Jon Husted of Ohio
  • Sen. Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania
  • Sen. Pete Ricketts of Nebraska
  • Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana
  • Sen. John Curtis of Utah
  • Sen. Mike Crapo of Idaho
  • Sen. Jerry Moran of Kansas
  • Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas
  • Sen. Susan Collins of Maine
Meanwhile, Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Andrew Garbarino are calling for top immigration officials to testify to Congress."

Minnesota’s chief federal judge is ordering the head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to appear personally in a Minneapolis courtroom on Friday, with the judge saying that ICE has failed to comply with dozens of court orders....

Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz in a Monday court filing, ordering acting ICE director Todd Lyons to appear in court, wrote that “the Court’s patience is at an end.”

ICE agents will have a security role at the Winter Olympics in Italy, it has been revealed, after the man who led the Trump administration's crackdown in Minneapolis was moved out of the city.

Holy moly... That's a disaster waiting to happen.

You have to fear the real possibility of an absolute bloodbath taking place. Literally, no exaggeration.

Oh the irony of Italy not wanting ICE agents there

"This is a militia that kills," Sala said in an interview with Italian media. "It's a militia that enters people's homes by signing permits for themselves. … It's clear that they're not welcome in Milan, there's no doubt about that."

US Holocaust Museum responds after Tim Walz invokes Anne Frank's name, calls exploiting Holocaust 'deeply offensive'

The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum posted on social media in response to Walz's comments, "Anne Frank was targeted and murdered solely because she was Jewish. Leaders making false equivalencies to her experience for political purposes is never acceptable. Despite tensions in Minneapolis, exploiting the Holocaust is deeply offensive, especially as antisemitism surges."

That comment was in regards to discussion about documenting
to which clearly that book was a very important historical document. I am not exploiting the holocaust. I myself have been keeping documentation of current events to be able to share with family later on. We are in historical times right now.

The reactions to Noem's leadership decisions continue. (My personal opinion is surprise she is still in office after agents under her command killed two U.S. citizens on the streets of an American city and she blamed the victims.)

Democratic Senator John Fetterman called on President Donald Trump to fire Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem as the agency continues to face backlash after the killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.

Today, District Judge Patrick Schiltz has ordered the acting ICE director to appear in court on Friday.

Schiltz says Todd Lyons must explain why his agency has failed to hold a bond hearing for an immigration detainee in the court-ordered timeframe.

Schiltz says "the court's patience is at an end" as he takes the self-described "extraordinary" measure of summoning the acting head of ICE to court.

He demanded that acting ICE director Todd Lyons appear in court after "lesser measures have been tried and failed", according to a court filing on Monday.

"The Court’s patience is at an end. Accordingly, the Court will order Todd Lyons, the Acting Director of ICE, to appear personally before the Court and show cause why he should not be held in contempt of Court," Schiltz wrote in his order.

<modsnip: Information stated as fact with no approved source to support>

It's my opinion that had he not been carrying that day, and had he not inserted himself when the woman was pushed down, he'd likely be alive today.

It's my opinion that an unfortunate chain of events transpired. I do not adhere to the notion that a Federal agent in this case committed 1st degree murder.

It's my opinion that no charges will be brought against the Federal agents in this case, however, if so, they will be lesser in nature, considering a litany of factors that came in to play that day.

You're right that likely had he not helped a woman up, he wouldn't have been shot. But that should enrage us. Absolutely enrage us. Forget about being Pretti for a second. Imagine being the woman. Imagine being physically assaulted and shoved to the ground, unable to get up on your own, and everyone around you is fearful to help for fear they will be killed. His biggest crime is lending a fellow citizen a hand and he received the death penalty for it. That doesn't make the situation better. It makes it HORRIFIC.

As for the gun, whether the agents saw it or not is up for debate. But regardless, that should also anger us. If exercising your Constitutional right to carry a gun (without ever brandishing it or pointing it at someone) is reason to be killed, that's alarming and IMO, indefensible.

MOO.

This is not true. There are restrictions on the carrying of a firearm in all states, and they vary.

What is not true? You posted a bunch of links and I clicked on them and skimmed them, but don't have time to read through all of them. So I'm curious, what about this statement is false: "He had every right to carry a gun wherever he went, per the Constitution."

Are you saying he didn't have a right to carry a gun? He was on a public street. He was at a protest that was actually peaceful until ICE began their shenanigans. He never brandished the gun nor did he threaten to, as far as we know from media reports.

So what part of my statement is false?

MOO.

  • Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino is expected to leave Minneapolis today as President Donald Trump plans to reshuffle his immigration operation amid widespread backlash to two high-profile killings of civilians.
  • Bovino is losing his "commander" title, federal officials told NBC News, and will return to the border in El Centro, California, to resume his previous job as sector chief there....
  • Trump administration officials and allies told NBC News the president is "concerned" about the sustainability of the Minneapolis operations following Pretti's shooting.

Micayla Pretti, the younger sister of Alex Pretti, has paid tribute to her brother and attacked the "disgusting lies" she said are being told to him.

"All Alex ever wanted was to help someone — anyone," she said in a statement reported by The Associated Press. "Even in his very last moments on this earth, he was simply trying to do just that."

Despite the ongoing attempts to smear Alex Pretti, to make up lies about his intentions, and to justify agents shooting him, most people see we lost a good man. imo

Not if the Italians can help it, to judge from the reaction.

I can't help but wonder if this is a jobs program for agents to give them bodyguard work and/or creating a sensational international story to take the attention away from their dangerous incompetence in Minnesota.
