MN - One dead after Minneapolis shooting involving immigration agents, US media report, January 24, 2026

Kyle Rittenhouse took a gun to a protest and that was absolutely fine. As was some of the J6 rioters taking guns to their 'protest'. Looks like we're back to '2nd amendment for me, but not for thee'.
What J6 protesters had firearms?

Pretti chose to twice intervene in law enforcement operations that did not involve him. MLK was a man that advocated for peaceful protest. I find it disgusting that Pretti is compared to MLK or JFK.
MLK was shot and killed despite being a peaceful protestor, so I’d say there’s quite a few parallels between him and AP.

How did Alex interfere with the officers?
He ‘shouted and blew a whistle’ according to the article I read, which is protected speech/protected forms of protest. He was tackled for it, which is NOT the appropriate response from ICE officers. I am astounded at the absolute lack of responsibility some are placing on ICE for their inappropriate actions, and instead blaming civilians for their legal actions.
ETA: link to article

“The earlier incident started when he stopped his car after observing ICE agents chasing what he described as a family on foot, and began shouting and blowing his whistle, according to a source who asked not to be named out of fear of retribution.

Pretti later told the source that five agents tackled him and one leaned on his back – an encounter that left him with a broken rib. The agents quickly released him at the scene.” (Likely because they knew he was not legally ‘interfering’ and could not charge him, IMO)

What has happened so far since the shooting of Alex Pretti

Sakshi Venkatraman
US reporter

We're covering several different developments related to the situation in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where on Saturday, US Border Patrol agents shot and killed 37-year-old US citizen Alex Pretti.

Here's what has happened so far:

  • US Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino, who has been the face of the immigration enforcement operation, is set to leave Minneapolis today along with several agents. He will be replaced by White House border czar Tom Homan, who will now lead the crackdown
  • Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended federal agents and called Pretti a "domestic terrorist". She has now been called to testify before Congress in March over her handling of the case
  • Pretti, an ICU nurse, was shot at around 09:00 local time on Saturday in Minneapolis after an altercation with federal agents
  • Federal officials say Pretti approached agents with a weapon - but BBC Verify's analysis of footage from the scene reveals he was only holding a phone
  • The killing, the second in Minneapolis in the last three weeks, has triggered nationwide outrage and sparked mass protests in the city
  • It follows the shooting death of Renee Good, another US citizen and Minneapolis resident, killed by federal agents earlier this month
  • Meanwhile, a federal judge has ordered acting ICE director Todd Lyons to appear in court on Friday to explain a separate matter: why an immigration detainee has not had a bond hearing in the court-ordered timeframe
  • President Donald Trump will be speaking about the US economy in Iowa at approximately 16:00 ET, and we'll be listening for any comments relating to events in Minnesota
  • Earlier, Trump said he still has confidence in Noem, telling reporters she has done "a very good job"

in what specific ways did Pretti come between so as to prevent or alter a result or course of events?

Protecting criminal and other illegal immigrants? How is that their job?
Pretti was protecting his rights and the rights of the woman who was pushed to the ground and pepper sprayed. How is shooting someone in the back border patrols job?

Hold up, are you now suggesting he deserved to be shot, because he interrupted the LE?

Nevermind, DBM because J6 is not the topic of this thread, the homicide of Alex Pretti is.

But to answer your query @Inthedetails yeah, pretty sure we officially jumped the shark a while back

Well, it goes ALL the way up, doesn’t it.
I also think Miller is behind the mission in Minnesota. I suspect he didn't think people would protest in the winter, not realizing Minnesotans love their state and each other, and they are willing to be outdoors in sub-zero temperatures. And long winters give them long stamina to see this through. Minnesotans were underestimated.

Miller was not at the meeting with Trump and Noem last night. Not sure what that means, but I remain shocked Noem is still in position. It's a horrible look to keep her there. imo

There is no evidence of that. Please link to some.

Keep in mind that this is not a partisan issue. It's an issue of the facts and humanity.

Many, many Republican officials have condemned Pretti's killing and demanded an investigation.

FWIW, right before his death Pretti was helping a woman ICE Agents had violently and brutally shoved to the ground. Many videos are available. We must all try to watch it objectively, and think of the humanity and facts before anything else. There was no legal justification for murdering Pretti, and people on both sides have agreed as such.

What J6 protesters had firearms?
Is this a serious question?

“However, court records show, opens new tab at least five cases where carrying or possessing a firearm was part of the indictment. A summary, opens new tab of the cases by the Justice Department as of Jan. 3 said 180 defendants were charged with entering a restricted area with a dangerous or deadly weapon, which includes firearms and other types of weapons.”

“But a review by CBS News shows several Jan. 6 defendants who were charged in connection with the siege were carrying firearms on the Capitol grounds. Some pleaded guilty and acknowledged criminal misconduct. One Illinois man was accused of firing a gun into the air as rioters stormed the Capitol.”

“Underneath the hooded jacket, complainants both saw a stock of an AR-15. He's going to be with a group of individuals, about 5'8", 5'9", skinny white males, brown cowboy boots. They had Glock-style pistols in their waistband.” - in this same article, Hutchinson testifies that even Trump knew J6ers had weapons.

Guns, ammo … even a boat: how Oath Keepers plotted an armed coup

President Trump took decisive action to pardon January 6 defendants who were unfairly targeted, overcharged, and used as political examples.
January 6: A Date Which Will Live in Infamy

So, to recap: armed men storm Whitehouse to disrupt peaceful transfer of power. No problem pardon those patriotic felllows. Alex Pretti, documenting ICE agents with a registered, permited holstered weapon, is met with

"Well, that being said," Trump returned to the reporter, "you can't have guns. You can't walk in with guns. You just can't. Listen, you can't walk in with guns. You can't do that. It's just a very unfortunate incident." 'You can’t have guns': Trump stuns with anti-2nd Amendment demand for protestors

we live in bizarro world at this point.

ETA LMAO I just hovered over my own post and saw that the white house link I posted in it is considered low credibility. You've got that right ;)
The hypocrisy is astounding and so disingenuous.

MLK was attacked and beaten for his peaceful protests. Mr. Pretti was attacked and beaten for his peaceful protest. He helped an attacked woman. He was killed for THAT. Mr. Pretti being compared to MLK or JFK would make the MLK and JFK we all know, very proud. DIsgust? IMO

Yep that's right Facts and Humanity things that many people have completely lost sight of.

The targets of federal immigration enforcement that day are not known to the public, except the one target who it is reported (not by federal law enforcement) hid out in a local business building. There may have been other targets in the area, we don't know. Speculating about what federal immigration enforcements should or should not have done after they weren't immediately able to apprehend that target is just that, speculation. Maybe they were waiting for a warrant to arrive. Maybe they were rethinking their operations as they waited, etc. It is pure speculation that they should have left that area.

Whatever it is they should have been doing when the person they were chasing got away, I am 100% sure it wasnt passing the time by assaulting and executing citizens!

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Monday, two sources told ABC News, as the administration faces fallout over federal agent operations in Minnesota and Pretti's shooting.

Noem's top adviser, Corey Lewandowski, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and White House communications director Steven Cheung were also present, according to sources.
Noem met with Trump, other officials Monday: Sources

not present at that meeting was White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller
