Big Lake man charged in abduction of 2-year-old boy that triggered Amber Alert - Bring Me The News
It is a long, detailed article. Some of the highlights:
Victor Alvarez, 31, of Big Lake, has been charged with kidnapping and deprivation of paternal rights.
The boy was being cared for by family members while his mom was a work, Wed. night, 16 March. When she returned home and went to bed, she discovered him missing. She phoned 911 at 4:29 am, 17 March.
The family found a note written in English and Spanish, asking for forgiveness for taking the child. Footprints were found outside the boy's bedroom window. A K-9 followed his scent down the driveway and onto the street.
The boy's father and his family were questioned and cleared.
The mother mentioned a man, Benigno (Victor) Alvarez who was very fond of her son. He bought him presents and took pictures with him. This man wanted to date her, but she refused him. He had been to the home and knew where the boy's bedroom was and also knew the mother's work schedule. He had phoned her 14 Mar and said he was in CA and wanted her to move there. He phoned her several times during the investigation, said he was upset to hear the boy was missing, and said he was driving back to MN.
Manager of the restaurant where Alvarez worked called police Thurs. night and said Alvarez had been seen there with the child at 8:15 pm.
Investigators found clothes the boy had been wearing in Alvarez's home. They stopped Alvarez while he was driving and arrested him. The boy wasn't with him.
At 11:47 a woman phoned LE and said that she had returned home and found the boy in a car seat in her garage near Paynesville.
Alvarez told the police he made a mistake taking the boy from his home without telling his mother, and that he had left him in the garage of people he knew who were not home at the time.
