"On Sunday, June 3, at approximately 12:13 p.m., the Sleepy Eye Police Department received a report that Vincent Hugo Mathiowetz, 73, 224 Ellsworth St. SE, Sleepy Eye, was missing.

At approximately 1:37 p.m. a vehicle belonging to Mathiowetz was located approximately 3 miles south of Sleepy Eye at a boat landing on Highway 4 near the Cottonwood River.

A search of the area was conducted by the Sleepy Eye Police Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, New Ulm Police Department K-9 unit, Sleepy Eye Fire Department, New Ulm Fire Department, Minnesota DNR, Renville County Sheriff’s Office drone and a drone provided by Bolton and Menk.

Mathiowetz remained listed as missing, as of press time.

No foul play is suspected."

Gun, bones found in area where man went missing in June
Human remains and a gun were found by a person at rest stop off Hwy. 4 near the Cottonwood River in southern Minnesota on Sunday morning.

According to the Brown County Sheriff's Office, the citizen called to report that they'd found a gun, clothing and what they thought was human bones. Officers responded to the scene and discovered a revolver, human bone remains, blue jeans, a red t-shirt, brown "work type" boots, a watch, glasses, and a driver's license belonging to Vincent Mathiowetz.

"The body found July 29 at a rest area south of Sleepy Eye has been positively identified by the Ramsey County medical examiner as Vincent Mathiowetz."
