3,200 percent increase in vehicular attacks....

While the number of assaults on ICE agents have increased, there is no public evidence that they have spiked as dramatically as the federal government has claimed.

An analysis of court records shows about a 25% rise in charges for assault against federal officers through mid-September, compared with the same period a year ago

This in and of itself should be evidence against his fearing for his life, at which point he would have been justified in using self defense.
Agree with this post.

The f****** b**** name-calling after HE shot HER face says it all.

I think what was dangerous about the "drive, baby, drive" is that the agent may have misinterpreted this as a suggestion for her to drive into him.
I could see an argument in a court of law that the drive baby drive comment in and of itself was incitement.

Everybody knows eyewitness testimony is unreliable. Why on earth would we rely on that when we have video from several angles and sources? Do you just let people tell you what happened and take it as gospel in the face of video evidence to the contrary?
Guilty verdicts are usually arrived at based on heavy circumstantial evidence. Having direct evidence is a bonus. Eye witness testimony and video are both considered direct evidence (as compared to circumstantial). Partial eye witness and partial video, combined with circumstantial make a situation more clear.

Not north_west, but chiming in here.

If there was a "reasonable business purpose ..." to get her out of the car, Ross didn't seem to give any indication of it as he was moseying around the vehicle and noting plate number. I don't think we hear him give any order to do anything. So what gave the other ICE agent the idea that she needed to be out of the car when Ross himself seemed to be casually surveying the situation and not needing any intervention?
Bingo.
They didn't even inform her why they wanted her to exit her vehicle.
There wasn't even time for her to ask "Am I being detained?", or "For what reason?".
Unprofessional all the way around from them that morning, and it resulted in a horrific death.
IMO.

Link to support for "extreme violence" by protesters?

There were many agents on the scene. Why was Ross the only one who felt it necessary to pull out a weapon?

there's a link and at that link there are links to just a few of the violent attacks that have taken place against ICE officials.

He felt it necessary because there is someone behind the wheel of a two ton battering ram ignoring orders to step out of the vehicle and these ICE agents are subject to vehicle attacks constantly. Which you can read about at the link.

What's with the shooter's decision to initially drive the wrong way afterwards? If he wanted to drive overtop of what mighta been the victim's tire tracks, we'd have video of that and we do FWIW. Hmmm...

From January 21, 2025 – January 7, 2026, ICE law enforcement officers experienced 66 vehicular attacks against them, compared to only 2 during the same time period the previous year. This is a 3,200% increase in vehicular attacks.
My stats prof would use this as an example of a guaranteed way to lose all professional credibility. i guess that means that ICE was more professional in the year before the last election?

It’s strange that this is the one video filmed from so far away that you can barely see anything and the quality looks like it's filmed with a potato. jmo.
Not the potato 😂
You're so correct about the quality.
IMO.

My opinion, this statement was made out of anger that 1. She tried to run him over, 2. She endangered his fellow agent who was right up against the car, and maybe even 3. That he was just forced into a terrible situation based on her decision to put that car in drive and accelerate forward.

My opinion.

Looking at the video, it is, frankly, absurd imo if he misinterpreted it that way. The wife was telling her to leave. And Renee proceeded to turn her wheels to leave.

In that context, "drive, baby drive," sounds like - "don't bother with these guys, baby, just go." There is absolutely nothing in the demeanor of these women to suggest they were aggressive. They were calm, not on the rampage.

It appears that the claimed increase in assaults isn't supported by any publicly available information.

If that stat is true, why is the government not prosecuting people who commit assault against agents?

Wouldn't you expect prosecutions to increase by 1000+% as well?

Folks, we recognize that this case involves deeply personal issues that evoke strong emotions. However, we must ground ourselves in Websleuths’ core mission: helping solve cases or meaningfully advancing the understanding of them.

Websleuths is a niche platform for evidence-based analysis. There are many other spaces designed for political debate or social commentary; our goal here is to keep this thread dedicated strictly to the facts of the case at hand.

To ensure we stay on track, posts focusing on policy debate, political ideology, or general social commentary will be removed. We ask that you limit contributions to verifiable facts, timeline construction, or forensic analysis. If the discussion continues to move into circular arguments or speculation that does not serve the mission, we will be forced to lock the thread to allow for a cool-down period.

However way you dress it, it doesn't sound like someone who can control their emotions. Why is someone like that even holding a firearm and working this type of job? hmm. jmo.

What are the legal consequences for having your vehicle in that position in the road?
I looked this up yesterday but can't remember where, but it's a misdemeanor, generally.
If they even bother to cite the driver instead of just giving them the chance to move their vehicle and leave with a warning.
But... ICE agents are not local LE, and they do not enforce traffic violations.
The agents should have called for local LE to deal with it.
This was overkill - in many ways :(
IMO.

I don’t see anyone wishing death for LE on this thread…

ETA: I also don’t see anyone generally saying they hate LE in this thread. They’re angry for a reason. I think you’re applying broad strokes to this situation.

I personally work in the legal department of my state’s LE. I have no general hatred for LE, but I will always stand up for what’s right. I don’t appreciate the false conflation that my outrage over this event somehow means I hate all LE and want them to die.
THIS! ^^^

You can't use a "my opinion" argument when facts prove differently. She didn't drive forward, her wheels, in every video were turned to the right, not forward. Her car would not have ended up down the street to the right had she "accelerated forward". You might as well assert that her Toyota pickup was green.

The whole thing is hogwash with a cowboy hat. What is the sample size in 2024 compared to the sample size in 2025? Oh, not given?
