This story is all over the news here (we live outside KC-on the Kansas side). What's interesting is how the Sheriff met resistance when trying to get the baby put on the Amber Alert. He had to really push to get it to happen.

Sometimes the media gives out more information than they should. They are now swarming in Melverne.
That deal about the Amber Alert bothered me as well but as I understand it they could provide no description other than the baby being 8 months, no hair color, eye color et. I can kind of understand that, but by the same token - it still worked in this case and I hope that they will apply it accordingly from now on - lesson learned. However I am sure the congressional rep from that area will be hearing all about it.

I am just thankful this poor baby was found alive and from the sounds of what we've heard will be okay. Have they made any comments about the condition of the baby ?

From what they said, the baby is doing well.

If I heard the Sheriff correctly, he said this was the first time the Amber Alert was used for a fetus. I can see why there might have been some hesitation in the beginning. With my children, I didn't know the sex until they were born. When I first heard about this, I wondered if they even knew whether it was a boy or a girl. We happened to be out Christmas shopping for a bit, and the alert was posted on the Scout board (I think that's what they call our new system). I also thought I heard someone say the tip came from somewhere else other than Missouri or Kansas. Could be wrong though, they are talking a mile a minute here about this.

It is a miracle that the baby was found so soon...and seems to be doing well.

They also just said that they expect something to happen within the next hour (concerning arrests).

luvbeaches -

We have satellite, but get our local channels via the good old fashion antennae. Did you see where channel 9 KMBC flew over the house in Melvern? Looks like a farm house out in the country. For some reason I can't get Topeka's channel tonight. I also heard that the FBI probably would have another press release later tonight.

It must have been channel 9 I saw it on also. It did look like a farmhouse. I flipped back and forth to see what they were saying. They certainly found them fast. It will be interesting to see how they managed to locate the old red Honda so quickly. Someone must have given them a really good tip, or maybe they had a partial on the plate (or at least what state it was from).

Glad they are indicating the baby is okay, being only 8 months and the trauma of the event I was pretty worried.

The tip could have come from somewhere else - that car was spotted on Highway 59 near Rockport at 1230 last night, they flipped off their lights and HP couldn't find them. They must have gone somewhere or hidden somewhere during the daylight hours, Rockport is maybe 30 miles or so north from Skidmore, not far from either Iowa or Nebraska.

Thanks for the updates, I'm down by Springfield MO and there is not much being said here. I just happen to know some LE folks and they are limited in what they can tell.

I sent you a PM, Charlie. I presume you mean CCoH ?

So happy the father has seen his child, and she's ok.
Such a miracle they got her back.

Special thanks to local LE, the FBI and Kansas Bureau of Investigations for all their help in finding the baby and the perps.

Praying for justice, and healing for this family.
With love and HOPE, Lanie

It sounds like the baby has been found. My prayers go to Bobbie right now and may her soul meet her maker and may she see the light. And all the peace of earth and beyond be brought upon her soul and know she is loved and her baby will carry on her legacy...Amen. Bless your suffering, Bobbie!

Hi RaisinCharlie
Are you familiar with Buffalo Missouri?

They arrested the woman (Lisa Montgomery-36 from Melverne, Kansas). No reason to believe this was a black market baby issue.

  • #93
The perp met the victim through the Internet (message board for Rat Terrier dogs).

How about that burger in Sedalia that has peanut butter on it. Every time we drive by, I am tempted to give it a try. We never miss stopping at Griff's in Sedalia. It's the best greasy burger around!

I have a small farm between Buffalo and Louisburg. I lived there for 10 years. Several of my kids are in Springfield going to school.

They didn't say anything else. It was very brief. It sounds like they are going to announce another arrest later tonight.

Remember that other kidnapping (not too long ago), in Cole Camp? The baby was snatched, and no one was harmed, but the woman was charged with something funky...not kidnapping. I never did understand what that was about. Do you remember this? And why did they not charge them with kidnapping? It seems like it was a funky statuate or something...I wish I could remember.

Since there appears to be multiple suspects I think insanity would be difficult

That's what I thought. I'll bet it's going to be someone who wanted a baby and couldn't have one, or someone who just lost a baby and can't deal with it. Not insane...just selfish and stupid...and a killer.
