So Dad works the night shift and his girlfriend babysits. Dad has custody?

Living in an apartment with two other women and your washing machine was confiscated by the police.

LE gets mixed up in SO many child custody cases unwittingly. As an example in this case. It well could be that MAYBE the bio mom and dad no longer can work out visitation, child support payments, full or partial custody or dad now has another woman being "stepmom" and bio mom ain't havin' it. IF the bio mom lives in Chicago are they scouring Chicago to see if he was transported there, while we are searching parks and ponds here? Are they originally from Chicago and dad brought the child to Jeff City? There are so many questions but the "search" by LE and Highway Patrol seem to have been dialed back some here. In almost all cases, by now it would have gone full blown Amber Alert but not here.

Darnell Gray is still missing. It’s been three days since he was last seen in Jefferson City. Nights have been rainy and cold. Keep an eye out for this child.

So not the stepmother, a fairly recent relationship. And she just wants her baby back?
Yup. This.
I'll just sit on my hands from now on.

I wonder what the ages of the children removed from the home are. They might have some valuable information.

LE here are still trying to wrap their heads around another case similar from Jeff City / Columbia in August. Trying to figure out what went wrong. What started out here in Columbia as a DV call could end with a Mother driving her children into a river nearly 200 m away. What could we have done differently to keep a little girl from murder and an 18 month old from a lifeless life? But it all began as a DV call here in Columbia...just sad.

KS - 5 yr old murdered, 1 yr old injured, Lawrence, 3 Aug 2018

I still can't get over how little information there is regarding little Darnell's disappearance. It has been 3 days with no word?? Does anyone know if the custody/caretaker issues have been confirmed? Has he been seen on any surveillance?

Let's be honest. This 3-4 year old little boy did not on his own grab some juices and snacks, along with his gloves and coat leave in the middle of the night. Something else happened. Anyone who tries to pass any of that off as possibilities should be questioned until he is found.

Agreed. This scenario is absurd, and likely an effort to coverup something much darker.

When that false story broke yesterday about him being found, I thought “wow, I don’t ever remember being this wrong.”

This ends badly.

Police expand search area for missing Jefferson City boy

Due to "inconsistent statements made by some close to the investigation," the police department decided to expand the search area, according to a press release Saturday afternoon. Jefferson City Police Lt. Dave Williams said he could not disclose how wide they were expanding the search area.

Same here. The story was just too stinky for me right from the start. I am not saying that a little one wouldn't try to go off on their own little adventures, but as many have said already- he would be scared in the dark. Hear a noise that would be frightening or be lost and nothing looks familiar to him, to which most children would start crying out of fear and loneliness. The fact that no one has come forward to say that they thought they saw or heard a child crying around that area, especially at that time of night, told me all I need to know. Then the arrests of the two women and the washer machine being taken out. Adds up to my hinky meter going off the charts.

I read this entire thread as I just wanted a break from the Jayme Closs discussion. I was overjoyed when I heard he was found then later read it is all false. Can't believe it. I'm only following the Jayme discussion as I grew up there. I personally feel drained just following that one. I just don't know how all you seasoned WSers can do this day after day. But I certainly not only give you credit but thank you for your efforts as well. I guess I'm just not thick skinned enough to read these things day after day.

I came over from Jayme’s thread too... I however have been around awhile. But, since losing our son I do have to take breaks every now and then for my own personal mind, body and soul. I do this because I was a volunteer researcher for Oregon’s missing and lost children for about 5 yrs. Now, I do it to keep my mind busy, even though it breaks my heart. For every Mollie that doesn’t come home there WILL be one that does! We just have to hold out that HOPE! I usually read a lot now. I will put my opinion in every so often. I love this place! They may not know it but so many of these long timers have helped me through many days.... I go back and read on Ethan’s thread all the time... it’s very healing and that helps my heart!

He is three, but his birthday is in a couple of weeks according to one of the early posts, announcing he was missing. Unless that info was wrong.

I believe that was incorrect.

I have strong reason to believe that the birth date of November 2013 is the correct one, which makes Darnell four years old, almost five.
