Would they have a place to hold her? Maybe they were afraid she might try to escape. It is a children's hospital. How many child killers do they deal with?

My bet is she is in an adjacent county. She may be in the Boone County Juvenile Justice Center. Its only about 30 minutes north of Jeff City. Boone is "Class A" county, more metropolitan than Cole. A portion of that facility is designated for violent offenders and they are segregated away from other juvenile offenders, kept locked down and under close surveillance (electronic and otherwise). They have more experience with juvenile murderers.

I hadn't seen your post about Pathways when I wrote that. But it proves what I was saying that there are procedures in place that would not be self transporting AB 2 hours away. I just thought that would be a horrible thing to do in a situation like that.

And as it turned out that never happened anyway. But I do know a little more about those things now. I noticed Pathways would give a hospital referral. I wouldn't interrupt that to mean call 911. That is just where I was coming from. But it turns out them taking her away wasn't even true. But Prenger Center took her there on sat.

Because in the state of Missouri even though you can be tried as an adult at the age of (I think) 13 you have to be 16 to be eligible for the death penalty!

I havt to wonder if she didn't know that. What was ahe 3 months shy of her 16th?

Yes, she did. The principal confirmed that. So, ILC was probably correct again.

I wondered because he refered to it as an unexcused absence but being in a menatl hosp woud be a legal ecused absence. I was confused about that. I am glad that was clarified.

When I said that I was referring to the Hawthorn Children's Hospital. That was on Sat. Oct. 24th.

As far as media reports you should only believe half of what they say. Anyone who has ever had first hand experience with a reported event will tell you that. My daughter and her friends were in an accident in which one of the 5 got a serious head injury because she was ejected from the vehicle. The articles and news broadcasts made up so much that you would have thought it was a different accident.

they were drunk/only the injured girl had alcohol in her system
they were speeding/not true because they were behing a semi going uphill
none had on seatbelts/all but the injured girl had them on

The problem was that the girl in the passenger seat grabbed the wheel and jerked it back and forth goofing around, which caused the driver to over compensate and roll the SUV. The girl who was hurt had no seatbelt and her head out the window to try and "sober up". The group had been at the beach all day but were not together the whole time as it was a big end of school celebration. The injured girl had been drinking with a different group of kids. My daughter and her other friends were kind of mad at her for getting drunk and that they had to take care of her.

Why go all the way to St. Louis? There are crisis beds and facilities within 30 miles of JC.

There are no good mental health facilities for children or teens in the Mid Missouri area --- and this is even more true for inpatient facilities. Mid Missouri Mental Health Center (where A went in 2007) used to have a top-notch pediatric program 30 or so years ago. An ignorant and backwards Missouri legislature whittled that program down to pitiful. It became so bad that the entire facility was going to be close until the University of Missouri Medical School agreed to take it over this year as a part of their psychiatric program.

I know I sound like a broken record, but mental health care sucks in this country and its lack has placed an undue burden on LE. This is especially true in Missouri.

Well, it would definitely be less crowded and more quiet there. Boone County is frequently full +.

Was the autopsy report ever released in this case? Do we know the COD for a fact?

She may have not been as bad as someone at Prenger thought. Could have just been a precaution by Prenger.

Yep - its a CYA move on their part. Adult LE will do this more with medical care, but juvie has more lenient policies because they deal with children and the subsequent public perception.

A guy who testified at the adult certification hearing (name of Cook, I think?) in regard to the Juvinile System's report on Alyssa, and it's ability to handle her, if convicted as a juvinile, said that MO currently does not have any facilities that are capable of housing a violent female violator. He used the term "hardware equipped", and said they "could" take her if they had to, but would have to rely on extra personell, which I assumed to mean round-the-clock guards. He said, when pressed, that they could "rebuild a facility" to house her. So more tax-payer money.

What does MO currently do with violent female juviniles? You can't tell me that with cities like St Louis and Kansas City in this state, that we don't have ANY violent females. Where are they kept now???

I'm glad they decided to try her as an adult, and the answers to those questions were part of the reason for that decision, but really, what DO they do with violent juvi girls? :waitasec:
