Back in 2001, two young boys age 12 and 13 murdered their father and were tried as adults. The 12 year-old only seved seven years in prison, and the 13 year old , serve eight years in prison.

The brothers were required to provide statements admitting to their roles in the killing. They also pleaded guilty to burning the family home to cover up their actions, and the agreement allows concurrent sentences of the same lengths for the arson. They are not eligible for parole but will receive credit for time served, reducing their sentences by about a year.

The prosecutor and defense lawyers said the agreement held the boys accountable for their actions but combined punishment with the possibility for rehabilitation.

They are both out of prison .....

IIRC, they were originally sentenced as adults but the family fought to have the sentences reduced saying that their father would never have wanted them to spend their lives in jail. I hope they got the help they so desperately needed, especially the younger one who had been the victim of sexual abuse by an SO neighbor.

And the question in this case, "How far will the lawyer and the family of the 15yr old will go to fight for her staying in the juvenile system?"

Thank you, Elley Mae. Now it says they are arguing whether future proceedings will be open to the public.

I imagine that anyone close to her has been asked not to speak to protect the case.

I know one of her top contacts on Twitter, a very sweet girl who used to live next door to us and play with both of my kids when they were younger.

AB is a sophmore. I have two teenagers who are a freshman and a junior. They both said it was all everyone was talking about at school yesterday.

Thanks for the local input!

Ok I am lost can someone please clue me in on who AB is? TIA!

We can not release the name of AB. The teen in custody is a minor and the teen's name has not been released by LE.

"The suspect's attorney, Kurt Valentine, urged officials to be cautious with their judgments of the suspect, who he referred to as a child.

"I would ask that they wait, that they listen to the facts as they come out and not judge quickly," Valentine said. "Learn about this person, learn about this child. You're dealing with a child."

This makes me so mad. Is he saying there are no consequences because AB is 15? pfft!

"At today's funeral, Olten's casket wil be carried from the service to a nearby graveyard by a horse-drawn hearse, STL Today reported.

"She was somebody special," Peggy Florence, a spokeswoman for the Olten family said. "They called her a girly girl. She would be out in the mud and snow in her frilly little dress."

*sigh*

I want to make sure I understand the rumor rules here. I see folks linked to some comments with rumors so I am taking it we are allowed to link to rumors, just not post them (the actual rumors) in this thread? I found those rumors last night, but since we aren't allowed a rumor thread on this topic yet, I didn't post them because I thought we weren't allowed. I'm confused. Can y'all help a newbie out?

Thanks!

We have to use great discretion when referring to any post by others. The reason is that not only could they be rumors, but it is disrespectful to quote someone else - it can cause it to look like your own idea when it wasn't. And our members who are not looking at each post might come on the thread and believe the rumor to be true. The only reason I mentioned it last night - with the link (linking to sites that don't cause a xxxxx are okay) - is that the rumor is happening at more than one blog site.

Let's not "sleuth" any rumors, lest we lead anyone to believe they are substantiated, which is certainly NOT the case.

This is way out of hand with posters asking others to pm them on this thread. It is against TOS so here is what I am going to do. I am going to warn everyone one last time. If anyone asks for a pm , hoppy will be linking me the post and that poster will be given a 2 week TO.

Bumping Up Regarding PM's.

There has to be a balance with this girl. If her family was actively working on helping her, doling out reasonable consequences, and she was still acting out, then I think she should be tried as an adult. If she was being raised like you would raise a wild animal, then I think she should be tried as a minor and those responsible for her parenting should be charged for negligence.

FWIW, my money's squarely on the former.

That's interesting. I found google instructions on another forum just yesterday that allowed me to find out who AB was. And the Twitter account only had 3 followers then. I guess someone didn't want to be associated with her. Not that I blame them.

For those of you still wondering who AB is, I would happily give you instructions to find that info yourself, but I don't know if that would also be against TOS. I'm pretty sure I've seen instructions on this thread though.

Well, those instructions don't really work anymore. The casenet records about AB's guardianship have been removed from the casenet site.

I'm not sure how legal it is for them to remove public records (we have sunshine laws), but they are now gone.

Hopefully asking this in the TOS-correct way.....

The house that Elizabeth was coming from- Was it an afterschool care home, meaning did Elizabeth go there after school on a regular basis?

From what I have read from BLOGGERS on media sites, this family was caring for other people's children. I do not know if they were foster parents or babysitters.

Sorry to be the annoying person who is lost here but have they released a motive for Elizabeth's killing yet? I looked through some of the links and didn't read anything as to why they think this girl killed Elizabeth.

Thank you
