Do we know any specific info about where the body was found? Here is a map of their neighborhood - my guess is it wasn't too far away.

Elizabeth left at 6:15, called her mom to say she was coming home -- we have heard the perp could possibly have called her and told her to come back - she could have been 1/2 way home, maybe less... the perp meets her as E is walking back -- I just wonder how she got E to go into the woods? I think she was killed at the site where she was buried. JMO.

I have not been able to find the exact location of the scene. Looking at your map, Elizabeth's house is the one at the very top kinda cut off. I believe they said "Deep in the woods behind Elizabeth's house"

hmmm IIRC - i thought she became a suspect after the letter was received by LE? I didn't know it was immediately.

She was not an official "suspect" but as someone mentioned, she immediately set off their hinky meter.

You may also want to consider that she may have a juvenile record. LE would be immediately privy to that information.

  • #343
I'm also guessing she threatened her at knife point to get her to the scene.

Mendara,
Both statements could be true. LE may have only been able to bring her in and really start interrogating her after a letter but they may well have been focused on her as a "person of interest" almost immediately.

I know both statements could be true - but which is the truth? If LE knew immediately there must have been some other evidence that lead them to her and didn't seem like that right away to me anyway. However, if the note itself lead them to her, then you have to wonder if she wanted to be caught and if she did want to be caught why did she bother to hide the body so well?

MY BOLD

There have been allusions to that possibility on the comments of some of the local news stories' sites. Of course, we have to take all of that with the proverbial grain of salt, but given this crime's heinousness, I feel it's highly unlikely this was her first foray to the dark side.

Who metioned this? Is this a rumor? I just want to know facts - LE said they became suspicious after receiving the note and when they confronted her she THEN lead them to the body.

Seems to me that LE had nothing until the note.

Here's the link to the article from Thurs. night, the night before they found her body and presumably got the 'handwritten note'.

http://www.newstribune.com/articles/2009/10/22/breaking_news/doc4ae10c83ef680093862382.txt

Although White and other authorities continue to believe there was no foul play involved in Elizabeth's disappearance, Vicki told reporters she believes someone "grabbed her."

[...]

White and other authorities have said they have no documented evidence that would show this was an abduction and therefore this case, for now, doesn't reach the Amber level.

[...much further down, same link, previous article...]

Elizabeth was listed as an "endangered missing person" and federal authorities have joined the case, White said. The sheriff said it did not appear that the girl had run away from home, and no Amber Alert had been issued because there was no evidence of an abduction or foul play.

Unfortunately, there is a dearth of facts in this case thus far.

Thats my feeling exactly. The article I just linked above mentioned searching the area, including nearby creeks, which might be because they thought drowning or some other accident.

jules71 posted "I just wonder how she got E to go into the woods? I think she was killed at the site where she was buried. JMO."

I tend to agree with you jules, as to how she got her back there here's my thought.

It was apparently well known that Elizabeth was frightened of the dark and liked to cut through neighbor's yards (maybe to stay nearer the lit houses). What if AB preyed upon that fact and caught up with her outside offering to accompany her home?

Sorry I was unclear, I meant both could be true at the same time as in I don't think it must be an either or.

I started crying.

My gawd, that was painful to listen to. She couldn't carry a note in a bucket!

yikes, thanks for the warning, lol. despite the apt descriptioin, I still was not prepared for that litte bit of nail on chalkboard.

I agree. I've said before that I think she had the attitude/lifestyle of an Emo but dressed like a Scene Kid. JMO.

But like I said, Mendara, she is not what is considered to be goth. She would be Emo or Scene. Nothing about this girl is goth, that I can tell you. However, it still seems to be irrelevant. This incident occurred because this girl's parents were not in the picture to raise a proper daughter. JMO.

Maybe to rule them out immediately?

I don't think LE KNEW anything. I think (I hope) they were being thorough, checking out who was in the area of Elizabeth last seen, RSO's n the area, house to house canvas of the neighborhood, etc.

I would hope immediately after finding out she was missing they were looking at every possible angle rather than zeroing in on any one suspect. That is why its called investigating.

I believe she was thought of as EMO and a cutter.

From what I got from wikipedia and other internet sources, emo is the more depressed, darker side of scene, with scene kids wearing the brighter colors and hair dyes. Apparently cutting is fairly common to both.

And as always this is MOO.
