Found this information that says quotes the Madison Illinois police chief as saying there was a possible suicide note in the car and that she did not return to the Illinois side of the bridge (nowhere else says this so I was looking for confirmation). I don't know if this source is legitimate and can't find this quote given anywhere else. Chris Burns is the chief of police in Madison Illinois.

“When we went back to the car and looked inside we found some personal belongings and what we believe to be a suicide note,” said Burns.

They searched today around the Chain of Rocks bridge but did not find anything. Keeping hope that she will be found safe.

VERY concerning that she spent two hours on the bridge (working up courage?) and then did not return.

Also, the school says she was not enrolled. The friend who says she definitely WAS may be basing this on Gift coming to the university as if a student on a daily basis.

I wonder the same, especially since I believe I saw an article stating it did not show her returning to her car. So how do they have an end time? From googling I was under the impression the parking lot on the IL side had cameras but not necessarily the bridge.

Lots of rain recently in the area, including flooding in St. Louis high enough to close Interstate higways.

If this young lady jumped from the bridge, she may be found very far South or not found at all.

So sad, such a bright shining countenance that appears to match her name!

The body of a missing woman was found floating in the Mississippi River over the weekend.

According to Madison Police Chief Chris Burns, 20-year-old Gift Kamau of Florissant was reported missing on March 30 after her car was found abandoned in Madison, Illinois. Her body was located May 13 around 12:15 a.m. near Gasconade Street.


The St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office was only able to identity Kamau via dental records. Burns said investigators believe Kamau committed suicide, adding that a suicide note had been found.
