Ferguson officer had no time to activate camera during shooting

The officer stopped by the Community Center, in the 1000 block of Smith Avenue, &#65279;about 9 p.m. Saturday as part of routine patrol duties and spotted a man running from the back of the building. The officer lost sight of him during a foot chase and was ambushed at the crest of a hill.

The man pointed a gun &#8220;inches from the officer&#8217;s chest,&#8221; Eickhoff said. The officer deflected the man&#8217;s hand and was shot once in the left arm. The bullet passed through, missing the bone and muscle.

The officer told investigators he believes he fired three shots back, Eickhoff said.

I'm with him on this. Press and others are hyper focused on an LE coverup or LE mistakes. Aren't these officers' lives more important?

Eickhoff said the technology is novel but the events are more significant. &#8220;I understand why everyone cares about the camera, but why isn&#8217;t anyone concerned about the fact that two police officers got ambushed Saturday night?&#8221; he asked.

Ummm...a few weeks late but better late than never...

The last couple of nights, more than ever before, some of the protestors seemed cranky about the live streamers taping them there. Some called for them to 'turn them cameras off, fool'....others said 'turn the sound down for a minute, please...' and there'd be a quick convo with no sound.

So it is interesting that there dont seem to be any livestreams right now

I think they like the cameras when they think it might catch even the tiniest infraction a LEO might make. But they don't want it filming THEM behaving badly.

At that time, the building was supposed to be empty. He was not expecting to have interaction with anyone and did not have his body camera activated for the routine building check.

He was suddenly attacked after interrupting a burglary attempt and sustained an injury from a gunshot.
Generally, the body cameras are utilized with any interaction with members of the public and in any situation when an officer feels it is necessary, and has the opportunity to activate the camera."
