This might not be a popular opinion right now, but I am going to defend Capt. Johnson a bit. I think the FPD were in a very bad position last night. The optics and the potential press was very bad for them, if they ended up having to physically FIGHT the protestors linking arms in the street. They had a good case for 'civil rights unrest' and if the cops attacked them wearing riot gear, it would have looked horrible splashed all over the world press. We would look like Hong Kong.
These protestors have huge masses of professional protestors coming in a couple of weeks. I don't think the FPD should give them any extra grievances to work with. Especially with the DOJ breathing down their necks. I think Capt. Johnson was right to be worried when he saw the video of the lone black pastor being picked up by 2 cops in riot gear, while he knelt in prayer. That is like a TIME mag. cover photo.
And with the gunshots, and the ACLU watchers, and the DOJ and the media cameras, it was not going to end well for the FPD last night. I think Capt Johnson helped them out. jmo :whiteflag:
