Some talk online that since the police report is not complete yet, there's a cover up. They must've missed the part about transcription, additional witnesses, etc.

So the City Council made the decision. Certainly different from the spin that has been all over the media. Imagine that.

They don't care to know the facts. They have a belief and they would stick to it even if we had video of MB barreling toward Officer Wilson at 90 mph IMO

The night the praying clergyman was arrested and released, the protesters wanted the police to leave. Johnson said they wouldn't leave, that's not the way they operated. Protesters said they wouldn't leave until LE left.

I went to bed. But wondered how that worked out. Anyone know? Did they all stay til morning? Or ... ?

Didn't realize there was an MB thread available until yesterday afternoon!

IIRC, most of the cops went back inside. A few were posted outside, but back from the protestors. And almost all of the protesters left, excpet for the hardcore ones. They just milled about until 3 or 4 am, I believe.

I think that the handling of the situation in Ferguson is setting a very, very bad example for the rest of the country.

What is being done to LE in Ferguson, by LE in charge, is just terrible. Nothing like having your hands tied and being sent into the arena. Talk about PTSD! Talk about job dissatisfaction. Talk about humiliation and stress.... I rather hope that all the LE who are taking these orders have applications out elsewhere. Ah .. I found the word ... LE has been emasculated .. not by the protesters, either..

Like others, I dread when the GJ announces. Can't imagine what the new demands will be if the decision is in favor of ODW. Or even if it is not. Doesn't matter when you're on a roll.

The objective seems to be (IMO) death to ODW, and for some, for all LE, and NO CONSEQUENCES for protesters when they break the law, or owe fines. No consequences ... the ideal life.

Scary.

IMO, both sides can 'talk' all they want but no matter what comes down from the GJ, there will be a major problem. If OW is not indicted, the city will burn. If OW is indicted, the protestors will be pizzed because OW is not in prison or dead and protest will continue. I see all this as a lose/lose situation for everyone.

This is what really upsets me, if there is no indictment, OW will have to stay in hiding for a long time - somewhere. Someone will try to gun him down to be a 'hero'.



Question: If there is no indictment, will there be civil suits? Can the family sue for wrongful death?

It sucks to say, but OW is going to have to move frankly. Maybe St. Charles County or Jefferson County is far enough, but even if he's indicted, I doubt he'll be convicted. If he is convicted, well he's moving by order of the State. Any other outcome and he'll surely move. He can't stay where he is.

Yes, they can file a civil suit still. There is no prerequisite that criminal charges be brought first or a conviction be had first before a civil suit can be filed. A civil suit gets stronger obviously if criminal charges are brought and all but guaranteed if there's a conviction. My guess is, if there's no indictment at a minimum, the name attorney's will drop it like a hot potato though. Some young, solo practice attorney trying to make a name for themselves may pick it up and still file it, but even then it probably never gets to court.

If they can get 1000 people who would otherwise continue to ignore their tickets to take advantage of it and pay their fines because they were able to get the warrant lifted, and the average fine is $100, that's $100,000 the City is getting that they wouldn't otherwise be getting. I'd bet both the number that take advantage of it and the average fines will both be much higher too.

Y'all do know that warrants are routinely lifted anyways if they hire a lawyer too, right? That's why I don't see the big deal. If a lawyer can walk in and say "Will you lift this warrant?" and they say yes, why is it so wrong for John Doe to ask the same question and get the same answer?
