I admit to being the last one to get something, at times. Why is the name of the officer important? I see it as a potential threat to him, or his family members, who had nothing to do with the events of that day.

I have purposely stayed away from reading all the details of this case, because it seems to eventually devolve into a white/black kind of thing. (And many wonder why we can't move beyond race issues...maybe this is why.) Could it be a case of too much testosterone, with a liberal mix of fear?

We're never going to know what happened, because one person is dead and cannot tell us, and the other person has already been tried, judged and convicted by the public.

At the very least, it sure made a lot of blood boil, and widened the racial chasm.

^THIS is what I don't understand. How can people rationalize the looting? That it's drawing attention to their plight? How? By making them look like thieves and thugs? I cannot comprehend this. To my viewpoint, individuals are clearly taking advantage of this controversy to rob and steal and break glass and just generally cause mayhem, but that's JMO. The looting blows my mind.

The young man with him, Dorian Johnson and the other witness Tiffany, don't recall her last name..

They claim after Mike Brown broke free from the officer's tussle through the car window, he shot while in the car, as Mike Brown was running away.

The ME's report will be crucial here. If that officer after a threat is no longer there, running away, then shoots, steps out of his vehicle to empty his weapon into the chest and head of Mike Brown, who had his hands raised in surrender, he needs to be arrested for murder..is my belief

So all the witnesses say he was shot in the back? If so, for their stories to hold up the ME must find a shot to his back. So yes, the AR is extremely crucial in this particular case.

Did they say why Michael was tussling or fighting with the officer in the police car to begin with? If MB was grazed in the side you know the police officer is going to say that happened when MB assaulted him and tried to grab the officer's gun. Not that I believe that but if he has already given a statement saying that and the autopsy backs up a grazed wound from very close range that will be used if and when it goes to trial. Especially if the angle of the bullet is consistent with MB reaching into the car window in order to grab the gun. If the other shots were fired when the officer stepped out of his vehicle from 35 feet away there will be gunshot wounds that were fired from a further distance and the ME will be able to tell that.

I thought that police could shoot at someone who is running away from them in order to stop them? Is that not the case? Don't we see other cases where someone is running from the cops and they shoot them in order to stop them? Maybe I am mistaken about that.

Now if he was in a surrender posture when the rest of the shots were fired I totally agree with you and that is a huge problem for the officer. I wish someone had videoed this as it was happening and not just the aftermath. That would be a much more important piece of evidence to me.

Now, please don't think I am taking up for this officer because I am NOT. I truly don't know what really transpired before this started or during. All I have seen is the aftermath video that really doesn't tell us much about what really happened between these two.

Sorry to blow up this thread, but I'm loving this article and I wanna share. Here's Jesse Jackson Sr.'s take on things:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2014/08/12/jesse-jackson-ferguson-riots-column/13957197/

A St. Louis Post-Dispatch photo shows Brown's stepfather, Louis Head, holding a sign reading: "Ferguson police just executed my unarmed son!!!" Police report that Brown shoved the officer into his car, tried to take his gun and a shot was fired. Obviously, there are conflicting reports so it's premature to come to conclusions, but a full federal investigation into what happened is essential. I understand the community's anger, and protests are legitimate and in order, but Michael Brown's family said things should not be made worse with looting and vandalism. That will only cloud the real issues, will not bring Michael Brown back and will not facilitate justice.

a long line of blacks, especially black males, who have recently been gunned down, wrestled down and killed by white men and/or white police officers who claim "reasonable fear" or "self-defense" as their defense. However, Chicago has experienced a rash of young blacks in gangs killing each other over "territory" or in "retaliation," so it's not just whites killing young black males.

octobermoon, did you see the police chief get all clammy when a certain name was said to him today? i wonder if that had something to do with them (possibly) deciding to release the name tomorrow.

It was him. FYI

I believe justice is what the family is seeking. I don't believe anyone wants harm to this office but rather have him arrested if indeed wrongdoing did occur or a bad shoot...of course you always have those rogue folks who will want vigilante justice, I pray doesn't happen..

I know the family is wanting everyone to be peaceful but we have already seen that not everyone up there respects their wishes.

I really don't understand the need to release this officer's name when they have already said they never release anyone's name until they have been arrested and charged and that hasn't even happened yet.

No. That is their right, due to their righteous indignation over the situation (said tongue in cheek).

Who said this Poppy? tia

Wait a minute. I thought I read he stopped them just because they were walking in the street?

So now it did seem like he had cause to stop them. And since the QT burned to the ground the video tape has been totally destroyed.

Sheesh, I really wish we knew the complete story and IMO we aren't getting it.

They feel they are stereotyped as criminals therefore looting and arson seems like a good way of rebelling against that characterization?

No, the robbery happened at ANOTHER convenience store and police received reports the suspects were walking towards the QT.

They said the video of the robbery is being released to the public.

Is the right to riot one of those unalienable rights?

  • #858
Irritating as all get out how that is all being glossed over imo.
