They are in the beginning stages. With this freeway closure attempt I'm guessing that they have seasoned police killing protestors there giving ideas and information. They need to organize after their outpouring of anger and compile a list of demands for change. This is a long long tiresome process, and eventually needs to be taken to their city /county/state government systems.

I guess I thought the beginning stages (grief/outrage over MB shooting) was back on August 9th and for the week or so after. Maybe it is me who is impatient and not the protesters. To me it seems as if this movement should have progressed through the outpouring of anger phase into the lets figure out how to demand, plan for and begin to institute the changes we feel are necessary.

I guess my basic question is when does the outpouring of anger stop and actual reasonable discourse over how to fix whatever is found to be broken begin?

oh :waitasec: we haven't actually gotten any results from the DOJ about what if anything needs fixing.

Nevermind. Seems we are all impatient for differing reasons.

Thank you!!!!

This is what the "activists" and political leaders should be conveying. So much more could be accomplished if people with clearer heads tried to educate instead of inciting more anger and outrage.

Here's the deal, at the early stage you have the seasoned activist who want to take the peaceful and fight the system for change route. But you also have a lot of first time protestors from the community who are somewhat new to this and are angry and upset and want to be heard.

You know, I'm really glad none of the radical St Louis activists have come here (Websleuths) with their rants and spin. It wouldn't sell.

Oh I'm still here. I kid. I kid.

Not sure who the seasoned activists are who wanted peaceful protest?

A month in is still new. Yes, I've been following the story from day one. However, I did not know that they have presented written demands to their city council ?

I think you misread my post. And I disagree that a month in is "new". Interesting that you used the word "demands" right off though. Yes, demands some in writing, some in video, some in person have been made from local up to the President.

Angry and upset over what? A police officer told a couple of punks to get out of the street and onto the sidewalk and they refused. What the heck are these people protesting, exactly? I don't believe they have a clue.

Their fee fees are hurt because they have to obey the law.

Vickers, Baruti, Shahid, Shabazz and others are seasoned activists/agitators. They don't need better organized protestors. They need people interested in the truth about what happened to Michael Brown.

To even stage this dangerous shutdown when it's based on a known lie is twisted and exploitative.

RE: change. Trade I am Mike Brown t-shirts for I am Responsible.

Change begins with each person being proactive, stop being a "victim" and become a survivor.

I have a new way to deal with crime thanks to your last paragraph. Home arrest with dial up.

I am just thrilled that this action has or is in process of leaving the area of the highway. Worried about protests at jail and the potential for things to be less than peaceful. I am all for peaceful demonstration but in addition to getting clear on "what is your ask?" someone needs to really explain that every ask will not be immediately met with "okey dokey, so mote it be"

Change is what people seem to be asking for and that is fine but what change? how will it be made, with specificity? By whom? Replaced with what instead? Is that reasonable and doable? What is a reasonable timeline for that change to be instituted?

We have raised a generation of microwave and highspeed net service individuals who don't seem to have a very clear concept that change takes time and must be undertaken carefully or anarchy rules. So for those who say the protesters are not asking for total anarchy, what are the protestors thinking they are accomplishing by continuing to demand change but allowing for no time or plan with which to institute said change?

Those cars with the doors open, do they belong to the protesters? Pretty stinking nice cars! Must be nice.

Yep...even in the face of being told this is dangerous to the public, it's also a crime, don't they look gleeful?

As in extortion? I wasn't aware any citizen can present "demands" to government officials and actually expect it to be successful. Has that ever worked successfully?

Isn't that how our government is set up to an extent? I would like to think that the people I elect are are trying to effectuate the changes I think are important. I would hope the same holds true for each of us. Aren't we supposed to take our concerns to politicians?

Duh, it just hit me. They are standing in the middle of the street, just like MB did.

Think they'll assault officers next, too?

Except Vickers did this before, so it's his technique to get what he wants.
