There are two parallel invest for deadly force. One from the Force Invest Unit goes to CAO. IAD is into policy, goes to @ChiefSLMPD.

Kennedy - I'm trying to understand how race may play into use of force. How does that alter how officers perceive a threat?

Rachel Lippmann ‏@rlippmann 9s
Kennedy - it may be RIGHT, that is w/in guidelines, but not how a situation would have been handled if it was a white person.

Anyone who attacked a police officer and fled apprehension would have been shot, regardless of color, IMO.

A little background on Lacy:

Clay made headlines in early 2007 when, as a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (co-founded by his father), he objected to the possible inclusion of U.S. Representative Steve Cohen of Tennessee, a Caucasian who represents the majority-African American district in Memphis and had made a campaign promise to attempt to become the first white member of the CBC. Although it is not part of the CBC's bylaws that members must be black, all members so far have been black.[5] Clay told Cohen "that he could not collaborate with the Congressional Black Caucus for the benefit of his black constituents 'until your skin turns black.'

Call me crazy, but that sounds mighty racist. SMH

I won't argue that. To be honest, while that article was from today, I almost had the feeling those remarks were made early on. No idea because the article doesn't reference when they were made.

Okay, thanks. My thanks button is not working. LOL

Have any officers from the *Ferguson* police force actually been fired, resigned or retired? Because it seems to me all the egregious force allegations came against officers from other departments, including the guy who pointed the assault rifle at protestors (he was on the St. Ann force, IIRC.)

Dotson: Each month, cops had to sign paper that said they know "use of force" policy. But they were just signing, now take 3 question quiz.

Rachel Lippmann ‏@rlippmann 14s
.@ChiefSLMPD says 20 officers have been fired, resigned, or retired from dept because of charges.

Rachel Lippmann ‏@rlippmann 1m
.@SLMPD civilian review board will be done via an ordinance, says Richard Gray. Kennedy will likely be sponsor.

And at least 1 from the City was then hired by the FPD. Somehow, have got to find a way to increase pay for officers to attract more applicants so places like Ferguson don't have to resort to hiring officers who have already dealt with such charges.

Something that Dotson had alluded to a bit - you can't make an officer follow the policy.

Rachel Lippmann ‏@rlippmann 1m
.@ChiefSLMPD - policy is you shoot to stop the aggresion.

Rachel Lippmann ‏@rlippmann 52s
Body cams are about 1200 to 1700 per unit. Plus will also have upkeep and storage of data.

Rachel Lippmann ‏@rlippmann 38s
There are about 900 patrol officers, but I don't think they're looking at one unit per officer.

They need to call Ellisville. Theirs cost $250 to $300 each.
