I saw a lot of "pride of ownership" in the piece about Mike's Meat Market or whatever that store was that was completely destroyed inside - the ATM broken into and the cash register also destroyed, as well as all the merchandise. And they were hit on the first night of looting, also. They seemed to be in complete despair and kept calling it their community. I couldn't quite tell the nationality of the two owners (brothers?) but they might have been middle eastern.

Bet they don't live in that community. My point is very few business owners are black. It appears most business in black communities are owned by middle eastern or korean shopkeepers. Jmo

Only because I'm not quite certain DJ was coerced into this. Why was he not arrested?

I do agree with if this is a bad shoot the officer should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. It appears to me, he might just get arrested..

No other witness accounts come close to what the lady friend of the officer has stated. By her account with the last shot to the forehead, sure appears to be over kill...

Release the ME report, release the amount of bullets this officer fired into someone who 3 say was in surrender position, hands raised, getting to his knees.

My local radio station has this personality named "Sgt Sam" who is a retired cop. He has made the point over and over that shootings by cops don't happen in real life the way they do on TV - and VERY rarely will one bullet stop an aggressive approach. Keep in mind, Michael Brown was enormous and it's likely he was fully able to keep approaching (if that's what he was doing) or running away (if that's what he was doing, I doubt it) after many shots. It's no good to shoot someone once or twice and then quit if the person doesn't seem to be phased at all by being shot.

It's disgusting

Positiveloy, absolutely disgusting.

How can this 🤬🤬🤬🤬 mentality ever be accepted?

The National Guard needs to be called in with a curfew implemented.

Allow the NG to shoot tear gas and bean bags at looters...
then arrest them.
THEY ARE COMITTING A CRIME. UGH
Ignorance is bliss to some.

Oh these business owners will open again although it's a high crime area the money they make off of these residents is very good. The shop keepers take the risk and take the profits to their own community. Outside of church and maybe beauty shops what other businesses thrive in those communities?

That's a really good question about how you make money in that area. The Wal-Mart where I used to work was only profitable one year out of the first 10 it was open, so I was told. I used to wonder what was the purpose of keeping it open. The only thing I could think of is that there was a K-Mart and a Venture close by and they were hoping to hold out longer than those two and take all the business after they were gone and maybe be profitable after that, but I don't know. The Venture is gone now, the K-Mart is still there.

The unit of measurement we used to use for missing merchandise after inventory was truck - as in 1.2 trucks full of stuff. One year I was there it was 3.2. Large corporations can weather these losses better than small businesses, so if any businesses come back I guess it will be more big ones than small, and that's not the healthiest thing either. We'll see.

FBI warns New Black Panther leader in Ferguson inciting violence
http://fox2now.com/2014/08/13/fbi-warns-new-black-panther-leader-in-ferguson-inciting-violence/
Apparently the New Black Panthers (not to be confused with the original black panthers, see below)
The FBI is warning the NBP leaders and keeping their eye on them after one of their leading members Chawn Kweli posted on Facebook , “This is the hour all the greats promised. If you die, die like a warrior. I’ll see you on the ground.” Kweli is posting updates from Ferguson under the tag: Live Battle Report.

It should be noted that the New Black Panthers are considered as a racist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. According to the SPLC "The New Black Panther Party is a virulently racist and anti-Semitic organization whose leaders have encouraged violence against whites, Jews and law enforcement officers. " ...... The "principals of the original Black Panther Party of the 1960s and 1970s— a militant, but non-racist, left-wing organization — have rejected the new Panthers as a "black racist hate group" and contested their hijacking of the Panther name and symbol."
"Members of the original Black Panther Party, which has no connection to the NBPP, have heavily criticized the New Black Panther Party. An open letter from the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation, which is run by members of the original Black Panther Party, decries the NBPP for being a hateful and unconstructive group. Bobby Seale, a famous founding member of the original Panthers, calls the organization "a black racist hate group." By injecting themselves into racially charged and other high-profile events, the NBPP has won considerable press attention."

I was in HS and college during the 70s'.
The BPs did nothing then but incite riots and hold violent protest.
I see nothing has changed.

My mistake. I'm finally able to connect to the video. Tonight it's the residents driving journalists out instead of the police. That would definitely be not an everyday occurrence. Sad that people reach this point of desperation that they make choices that will actually cause long-term harm to their communities. Violence/oppression is never the solution. Very sad.

desperation my azz. Looting, vandalism, robbery, attacking LEO and media is not ()&&*^%*^ desperation.

I don't know if you are reading or paying attention to what is posted in here and I stepped away so I don't know if this was addressed in here yet. I am sure he wasn't charged because the box of cigars that MD handed to him, DJ placed back on the counter when MD turned to steal another box. So when they left the store it was only MD who committed the "strongarm robbery. jmo

He looks absolutely exhausted. I like his continued insistence that the "protesters" and the "looters" are two different groups of people. The protesters said their piece and went home and then about midnight looters came out.

I wonder what the "change" that Johnson mentioned yesterday that would please the protesters is? Is it still going to happen?

I think he needs to not worry about pleasing the protesters and protect people from the <mod snip> at this point. jmo

I think long-term, the protesters are the ones who can affect change. They need to be made to feel that they lead their community - and we've seen cases where people come out and help clean up, where they guard buildings from looters, where they shout "NO" when the crowd becomes violent. They are the ones who can affect long-term change, IMHO. I wish they could come up with some kind of a brightly colored armband or something that would indicate solidarity with other protesters in a non-violent way, and pledge not to become violent or steal merchandise. It's only when you empower from within and recognize the good citizens within the community that change occurs. That's what high school student councils are all about. ;D PTSAs. Control and leadership from within.

There was a movement about 20 years ago to empower Black women in crime ridden neighborhoods and projects with the mantra "This is my neighborhood, these are my kids". It was very effective. Empowering people and encouraging them to police themselves works - IMHO.

And?

So what if he smokes weed...many productive members of society smoke weed...SMH

Does that mean this young man should be executed?

Does that mean it's okay for any officer to shoot someone who is in surrender position?

Na, not buying anything that's being sold here.. LE had days to cover for the officer who executed a young man. He should have placed him under arrest. Last shot the officer fired was in the forehead of Mike Brown..

Was it all right for the "young man" to beat up a store clerk half his size?

Was it all right for the "young man" to assault a police officer?

How do "place him under arrest" when he is 300 pounds and physically resisting?

I think a lot of us expected this - that there is doubt Michael Brown was actually headed to the trade school. Interesting, honestly, that if he was registered and expected to attend, they would have just said it. "Yes, he was registered to begin attending classes when we opened for the fall last week". How hard is that to say if it's true?

http://fox2now.com/2014/08/15/was-michael-brown-enrolled-in-college/

He was a young man, a life snuffed out too early, but what's the point of lying about his status?

I'm gobsmacked by this video. Johnson said the police were there all day. Naturally it was quiet all day. Then, after dark, when the going got rough they pulled out. I'm so glad that bunch isn't protecting my town.

In my opinion, the Ferguson LE had the right idea how to deal with these looting animals. Of course, they couldn't be allowed to do that, so. . . I wonder how many more nights of rioting and looting it will take before the criminals are appeased?

Those pictures of Johnson leading the peaceful protestors was so sweet, but when the going got rough they skeedaddled right quick. Disgusting.

DJ was not arrested because there was no evidence he stole the cigars and there was no evidence he strong armed anyone in the robbery video. If you watched the robbery video, he stood in the background by the door, he was not the primary actor in the crime. Would it be better if he was charged with a lesser crime as an accomplice given the entirety of the circumstances?

What evidence of coercion do you base your lack of certainty? He flat out lied in his first interview at the scene. His lawyers admitted DJ was part of the robbery. Whatever crime he may have been charged with regarding the robbery was certainly not punitive enough to use that charge as leverage to adjust his statement to something that favored the cop.

As for eyewitness testimony, I believe there is accuracy and inaccuracy within their statements. Many who are convinced that the cop is guilty of excessive force seem to ignore the inaccuracies and the nuances of them as the story evolves.

Overkill...by what standard? IF Mike taunted the cop and came at him, a bullet to the forehead was anything but overkill. It could be overkill, but I fail to see how anyone could conclude that based on the shake testimony of the three (the inconsistencies in their story added to the parts seemingly left out) alone.

I'm happy the video was released the same day as releasing the officer's name. People wanted the identity of the officer known but some refuse to see the real identity of MB. This speaks volumes to MB's state of mind when the cop came up to him.
