I am just very uncomfortable with assuming the worst about an officer, with no evidence other than MB's partner in crime and a few other questionable witnesses.

Especially when we have no evidence from the officer's history that would suggest he deserves such a lack of benefit of the doubt.

Again, I won't speculate about what ensued after he turned around and confronted the two suspects. I DO think we need to remember that state of mind and heat of the moment decisions are not judged the same as carefully thought-out decisions made with many heads and time involved in a court of law.

The laws (many cited here last night) recognize the difference and give police the right to shoot, even in the back, if they have a reasonable belief that the escaping suspect could be a danger to himself or others. (I'll post a reference to the MO statute ASAP)

Police officers don't always make the right decisions. But we can't judge a decision made in the heat of a battle by the same standard as one made in a court of law.

So tl;dr: It bothers me to hear it so often repeated that x doesn't deserve the death penalty.

ICYMI: @GovJayNixon has declared a State of Emergency for #Ferguson and instituted a Midnight to 5AM curfew. I support this action.

Antonio French ‏@AntonioFrench 1h

Leaders from the community will be out to clear the streets by midnight. Anyone here after that WILL NOT have the support of the community.

How are they going to enforce the curfew? I'm still shocked that the National Guard wasn't brought in. My dad made a reference to the Chicago riots, when I mentioned the National Guard...many years before my time, but, I pray this doesn't devolve into that violent of a mess.

It was looted.

and there was a fire but it's been taken care of . . . media has pictures of what they're doing now! Cater to the community or board the place up ? What are you going to do as a business owner in that spot for years ?

FWIW Antiono French is not from that area

he's a City Alderman -- has nothing to do with Ferguson gov't but a loud voice - he should look what's going on in his own community IMHO

I have yet to see an autopsy report

According to Brown family atty, Michael Baden is doing the 2nd autopsy report. And he says the family has not seen the original report.

He also says the robbery video ' has not been authenticated' by the family.

ETA: since when does LE have to have family members authenticate crime surveillance videos?

bUt the store that was robbed by MB was a hotbed of trouble all night long. There were troublemakers TRYING to get inside, but community heroes stood out front and backed them down. If the community had not stepped up, the store would have been burned down, imo.
The original post to which I replied said: "By the way, why isn't the physically small store clerk "shoved" by the 300 pound MB considered a victim? And if being "shoved" wasn't enough, his workplace was burned to the ground."

He wasn't stating an opinion, he was stating a fact which is/was untrue. Has nothing to do with anything that happened at or in front of the store last night. And, I did watch it with my own eyes for a few hours so I know what occured last night.

wait, this already contradicts what MBs family members said in previous reports -- they already stated that they did not trust LEs autopsy (or FBIs for that matter)

Let them police themselves for a bit longer... I'm serious.
Then perhaps they will have a new found respect for those that put on a uniform and risk theirs lives everyday to protect and serve.

Are there bad cops? Sure.
There is zero evidence, not a single shred of credible evidence this cop did anything wrong. We know the "victim" was on his own little crime spree & being as disrespectful of his community as he could possibly be.

IMO

They can't just let them police themselves because the looters are also destroying property, businesses and attacking the financial livelihood of citizens. It was inane trying to placate them by replacing the white Chief and putting the black Capt. in charge. That move reinforced the racial tension in a case that has nothing to do with race. The rioters will use any way possible to justify their criminal behavior. Troops need to move in as they did to looters in New Orleans after Katrina.

Gangs will never respect cops or the community nor do they have self-control. A few locals, including women, had no problem going into a church today and screaming at the Governor and Law Enforcement officials. Prisons also have riots because of feuding gangs. I think Ferguson is a community riddled with senseless gang violence.

Family Attorney: Efforts are underway to complete the 2nd autopsy and we will make a decision about how we will be disseminating that info in the future

They probably don't trust it even though they haven't seen it...[ according to their atty they have not seen it yet]

wonder if the FBI trumps the family in this situation

looking at the pics of MB in the middle of the street, I see no bullet holes in his back (white Tshirt) - may not mean a thing though

  • #1,139
Umm, no his workplace was NOT burned down. It was another convenience store that was burned down.

They did go after it though. I wonder how the store clerk is doing. I hope he is all right.

I think they meant that regardless of what the report was going to say they do not trust those results.
