The most interesting picture for me is the memorial. MD 2020, other liquor and is that cough medicine? Wowowowowowowowow.

Ummm ya...MARY is what that is called. Wonder if it shows up in the tox screen?

They lost me in the title where it said "Gentle Giant".

I got punked with the family, Crump, media spin in the Trayvon Martin case. It won't happen again.

His teachers described him as a gentle giant, according to the article.

Maybe that's how he was, most, or just some of the time.

Why should MBs entire life get boiled down to those few moments caught on video in the store? Do any of us want our entire lives to be summed up by one of our worst moments? Maybe we didn't strong arm someone. But there are actions morally worse than that. Thank god they're not caught on video. Thank god we aren't judged by the public based on one of our worst actions.

I think she was just trying to say "he was trying to flee/trying to get away" but was stopped by being shot. Like saying he was running, and his ultimate goal was to get away/flee when he was running, but that obviously didn't happen.

Just how I interpret it.

That could be what she's trying to say. The one problem I have is she didn't say that Brown tried to flee but was stopped by a bullet. She says that after he ran (successfully fleeing) he was struck by several shots.

I have a problem when eye witness accounts don't make sense. It leaves people having to speculate about what the witness really saw. JMO.

How do we know he was behaving like he thought he was invincible though? I keep seeing people harp on the fact that he was in the road, but every day I am avoiding people in the road here when I'm driving. White, black, criminal, law abiding, lots of people do it. They can't all be thinking they're invincible??? Even I walk in the street sometimes, if it's quiet or at night (as I said earlier, I will walk in the street at night, for example, because the sidewalks are shadowed by the buildings).

What is the evidence that makes people think he was so "arrogant" or "like he owned the place" or "thought he was invincible" (all things I have seen said here)?

They were walking down the middle of the street, blocking traffic. Big difference between walking alongside the shoulder, and walking in the middle and blocking cars. And they were walking with stolen merchandise, and a cop rolls by and asks them to step to the sidewalk and they did not do so. DJ admitted that he told the cop they were a block from their destination, so they werent moving over. I saw him say that on CNN in his first interviews .

That sounds pretty 'invincible' to me. jmo

Here, it is called Mad Dog 2020 and yes it shows up in blood alcohol levels. It is what 100 proof?

Bystander's 10 minute video shortly after shooting, posted & discussed earlier in this thread. Foul language warning.

Shortly after the 6 minute mark, a voice is heard explaining why the body is facing toward the police car. In the previous discussion, someone heard him to say Brown ran, then turned back on the cop. I wish someone would transcribe this although there would have to be a lot of obscenities & poliitically incorrect terms blanked-out.

LE sure did a good job of keeping their distance from the body!

Just googled Mad Dog 2020. It has 13-18% alcohol content.

Did you miss the strong arm robbery video taken minutes prior? The entire video?

He behaved like he didn't have a care in the world after committing that crime.

He carried the stolen goods in his hands...down the middle of the street, broad daylight, in front of police and refused to get out of the street.

I see what you're saying, but I'm not sure that was his "worst moment". That was his behavior 10 minutes before a cop shot him in self-defense. If that was truly his "worst moment" it's sad it WAS caught on tape and occurred 10 minutes before his death. Under the Washington Post article I posted upthread, there are worse pics of him, IMHO.

This video is so disturbing on so many levels. Why on earth wasn't MB body covered with a tarp? The language doesn't bother me, but the screams of his mother are heart wrenching.

ETA: After 10 minutes, an officer did cover him with a sheet. I am having a hard time with the actions of the cops in this video. JMV

Why? What do you think they should be doing?

That thief with the blue bandana covering his face and the blue and white plaid shirt had quite the night. Hit up the liquor store and the beauty supply store. Have those people no shame?

Stealing from businesses is a valid way to protest MB being shot?

I noticed all the liquor left at the makeshift memorial in the middle of the road. Wonder how long that will last before it's stolen. Mad Dog 20/20 brings back some memories

Tonight is a much more aggressive atmosphere early in the evening. Many more young people. Lots of alcohol.

The consensus among reporters is that tonight feels very weird and different.

Trying and failing to imagine a scenario in which this happens peacefully.

A lot of young people running up and down the streets. It's dark. It's loud. It's the energy, you know?

A school's accreditation rating, at least in our districts, is based on the success of the students and graduation vs. dropout rate, not the quality of teaching or school equipment. There are some communities (the ones in poverty) where you just can't get the test rates and graduation rates up no matter what you do. Here, if a school has students who fail to meet standardized testing rates, OR if there is too wide a disparity between racial group's success at the school, they can be low rated and shut down after 3 years of being unacceptable. Then, the school is shut down and the students dispersed to neighboring schools - as if the building itself was causing lack of success. Offering students excellent facilities and accredited teachers doesn't ensure that the students will succeed.

BBM. I think history has shown that excellent facilities and quality teachers at least give children a chance to succeed, no matter their race. Brown vs. Board of Education had everything to do with quality of teaching and school facilities/equipment.
My state doesn't allow a substandard school to continue to operate. Close it or fix it are the only two options.

I have to wonder if the reason the Ferguson police force has so few minority officers is because of lack of local candidates able to pass the entrance test.

Those tweets are frightening, pop.

I can't imagine being a reporter and having to cover this
