You know who we haven't heard from? Not one mainstream celebrity of any kind has come out in support of this cause. I remember when one of the NFL teams came out with hands up at the very beginning before a lot was known but nothing since. No mainstream African Americans standing up for MB. Hmmmm.....

Yup. Excellent observation. I've been noticing that, too. I expected some rap artists to come out with support, since MB aspired to be a rap artist, and IMO, urban rap is counterculture and protest music, which fits the theme going on.

But no "real" support (financial or with words and actions), nor really even much condemnation. No actors, no politicians beyond the 2 local state senator women, no Bill Cosby, no Colin Powell, no Donna Brazile, no Oprah, no Beyoncé, no sports figures, no Michael Moore, no Morgan Freeman, etc. Even Rev Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are pretty silent on the protests lately. (I'm sure they will be back for a visit when the GJ is finished and their decision is made, though.) ETA: Not to go off topic, but even Trayvon Martin's parents have only had one public appearance with the Browns. Mull that over, if you will.

And apparently even the Rams don't want to donate $$ or seats to any of the fledgling protest/ black power movements to hand out to their supporters. That speaks volumes to me. Lol-- maybe because the protestors don't have any interest in watching the game-- only disrupting it. Entertainers, such as sports franchises and sports players, want the spectators to come to see THEM play the game. They're kind of funny that way.....self interested, one might say.

To reedus, or any locals-- what kind of typical security do they have at the ballpark for NFL games? Metal detectors? Bag search?

I was wondering more on the lines of the Federal Anti-Riot Act. There have been numerous violations I doubt have gone unnoticed on the Federal level.

Gotcha. I'm not sure about them.

The leaders seems to have stepped back. Does this mean they no longer support the protestors?

IMO, they are stepping back because there is not enough media covering/attention for them. IMO, they don't care about the protesters or MB but just for themselves, their "fame and fortune".

Rev. Al Sharpton has already been involved with riots like these. Remember the Crown Heights riots? I don't think the anti-riot federal law was in effect back then. I don't think Sharpton faced any charges for that, but he's a lot older now, and needs to protect his income stream, IMO. I doubt he'd lead an actual Molotov cocktail throwing, brick throwing riot anymore-- at least I hope not.

On the third day of the disturbances, Al Sharpton and Sonny Carson led a march that of protesters.[22] The marchers proceeded through Crown Heights, carrying antisemitic signs and an Israeli flag was burned.[22][23] Rioters threw bricks and bottles at police; shots were fired at police and police cars were pelted and overturned, including the Police Commissioner’s car.[6][15]

Riots escalated to the extent that a detachment of 200 police officers was overwhelmed and had to retreat for their safety. On August 22, over 1,800 police officers, including mounted and motorcycle units, had been dispatched to stop the attacks on people and property.[6]

By the time the three days of rioting ended, 152 police officers and 38 civilians were injured, 27 vehicles were destroyed, seven stores were looted or burned,[24] and 225 cases of robbery and burglary were committed.[6] At least 129 arrests were made during the riots,[24] including 122 blacks and seven whites.[25][26] Property damage was estimated at one million dollars.[6]

I think it carries over. The war was not over. It's still not over. lol

He gave the wrong number of feet, but it is not a crucial bit of information. He would have no reason to lie, because it does not matter how far away the SUV was from the body. It has no bearing on the shooting. The crucial info is the distance between OW and MB. So I think it is a big to-do about nothing.

I'm sure it feels like a big to do about nothing if you are not in the community that is concerned about the integrity of the investigation. Not everyone had blind faith in LEO. I did until my brother had ten years in on the job, and became an PBA advocate for his fellow officers. They protect their own like few others.

http://www.erikrush.com/ferguson-still-a-ticking-time-bomb/

As is apparent, the story of the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, has fallen off of the press radar to a large extent as well. Brown is the black 18 year-old who was shot and killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson on August 9. Despite overwhelming evidence initially available that Brown was a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 wannabe who likely precipitated the unfortunate events leading to his death, the fact that he was black and Wilson was white made the shooting a “murder by default” in the eyes of liberals and much of the black community in Ferguson who, like many blacks in America, are positively inured in the prevailing leftist racial orthodoxy.

okay, I got some information from a friend of mine who works at Edward Jones Dome/America's Center: since the Dome and some parking lots downtown are considered private property, 1st Amendment rights will not apply to unruly protesters. Also, if a season ticket holder is found "giving" tickets away to unruly protesters, their season tickets will be revoked for this season. Now I don't know how the powers that be can do it but security is being ramped up in anticipation of riots in & around the Dome. Another thing, any "banners" or signs that NFL doesn't agree with will be destroyed :( & the holder will be escorted out of the Dome.

Last Rams game I went to (last yr) ticket takers did search clear bags, patted down peeps & at least one of them at each gate had a hand held wand to detect metal aka weapons, I suppose.

Now to vet out what's going on regarding extra security at Busch Stadium & Ballpark Village

I'm certain sports fans will out # protesters -- heck, I'm certain the # of LEOs downtown this weekend will out # the protesters

If you drive without a license, registration, insurance, etc. you should get a ticket. Failure to appear will get you into trouble. Appearing and stating you do not have the money to pay the ticket is understandable because you were driving without paying for the privilege in the first place. There are other options that should be made available to citizens who really have no money. No job means no money. No job means that you are available to do community service, volunteering in your community to help others. It is another option. Certainly the city has jobs for those who would elect community service in lieu of paying a fine. If people are sincere there is no excuse to have an outstanding warrant over their heads. It also promotes dignity. I have never heard, although I am sure there are those that complain, anyone ever say they did not have a positive experience when doing community service. jmo

Thoughtful post - thank you! It has been seen in many communities when the money goes directly back into the PD budget it becomes a profit center.
When you remove the profit motive, the ticketing and fines go down. Don't get me started on seizing assets from those not convicted of anything. Canada has issued warning to citizens travelling in the US not to carry any large sums. IMHO, we need to remove the profit motive completely from every police force, because there will always be a few bad actors who will take advantage if they can.

I do believe the community service was part of the recent proposals being discussed. Difficulty with that...already I'd bet 3/4 of the community service requirements are simply signed off on by a friend or acquaintance. Everyone knows someone that works at the YMCA or a church or a school or wherever and they just get them letters saying they did their community service whether they did it or not. Maybe there could be changes made to that as well.

I haven't gone to an NFL game for 2 years now, though I'm going Sunday. Last time I went, they had lines for people with no bags where they get frisked briefly if that. I don't remember any metal detectors. They had other lines for people with bags (purses) as they would be searched going in. Again, don't recall any metal detectors but it's been 2 years for me.

No metal detectors at the Cards games. Typically, you just give your ticket and go in. If you have a bag/purse, it's looked into. Don't ever remember being frisked at a baseball game.

I'm sure they can alter all of that depending on the seriousness of any threats.

Thanks for that. Yes, they always monitor signs, even if football related but inappropriate. I don't know how they can revoke season tickets if someone is unruly. I doubt season ticket holders will do that anyways.

If (and that's a big if) anyone even shows up to protest, I'd bet it will be limited the streets downtown. Anyone inside will be so dwarfed in number, unless a cameraman specifically picks them out, no one will know they're inside.

It got so bad in a neighboring town from me that they now have an ordinance on the books forbidding anyone from wearing saggy pants. If caught, they will be fined. If they are caught again they will be fined more and also the parents.

The police departments went to all the Jr. High and High Schools and handed out new belts.

IMO

I had to explain to a fella I hired that below the butt pants were not cool at our office. It was incredibly casual, and a lot of people at his level had a few inches of boxers showing with no issues. I felt bad for him, he was incredibly embarrassed and just didn't think about it because it was normal for him. He put on a belt and after he got paid, bought some slightly slimmer fitting pants and did just fine. He was the sweetest guy you'd ever want to meet, but I explained that it was hard for people to see past his gear, and that we all make sacrifices we don't love to put on a good face at work.
I'm sure he got a lot of grief about not fitting in around his neighborhood. There's a ton of negative peer pressure that goes on in all poor neighborhoods.

No longer able to attract their own crowd, the dwindling number of MB protesters must go out and find a ready-made crowd to latch on to now.
