I suppose it depends on whose definition of mainstream we use. My white old man's view of mainstream is much different than even my daughters much less MB or OW.

You're a man?
I should have known...:)

Hi LambChop! Sorry- was talking about PDs nationwide, as this has been in the news lately. There is one great article I cannot find now about PDs hiring consultants and a forum where police brag about their great asset seizures- even running a contest to see who can bring in enough money!
I will have to find that later- but here is a selection of stories on how some PDs have shifted their mission purely due to the profit motive. Enlightening stuff!

I just wanted to add that in NYC things changed greatly over the years do to political pressure and faster collection of stats (with their new computer system) allowed them to pressure individual precincts to "show results" desired. Prior to that, commanders trusted their squads to keep them informed of what was going on in the streets and what needed attention. But "intitatives" came from the top that they must show a reduction in violent crime. Unfortunately, since they were spread thinner instead of supported in this- it meant dissuading people from reporting- or making out report to seem like it was a less violent offense (similar to how pleas work- but in reporting). This was a huge change for the NYPD and although it was reported in one or two papers, the scandal went away. I know my brother and a few other cops were very disheartened that "massaging" their reports and keeping tabs on stats became a huge priority, way above the actual quality of life. Best explanation was city hall put the pressure on to improve "quality of life" on paper only as a PR move, to attract and retain business. I remember thinking this was parallel to the way a lot of businesses were run- with people very at the top suddenly not listening to the boots on the ground and sacrificing quality for what looks good to stock holders.
MOO.

Apparently black celebrities who don't publicly opine in black v. white situations are hounded until they do:

http://www.ibtimes.com/ferguson-sho...ilence-michael-brown-perhaps-unfairly-1668818

From your link :
"Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Oprah – who all spoke out after the killing of Trayvon Martin in 2012 – have not spoken publicly about the shooting since the 18-year-old Brown was killed by a white police officer in the small city outside of St. Louis. Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Jamie Foxx, Will Smith and Kanye West also are amongst the big names that have yet to turn to social media to voice their outrage over the shooting that has launched nightly protests and national debate over police brutality, gun violence and racial profiling. But is that enough to justify claims that black celebrities on the whole have been too quiet? And is it fair for us to expect that every well-known black American will weigh in on Brown’s shooting simply because of his race?"

I hate how Mike Brown is so often compared to Trayvon Martin.
Mike was no Trayvon!
Everyone I know believed Zimmerman should have been convicted! Everyone was outraged he wasn't. IMO

I'm sure it feels like a big to do about nothing if you are not in the community that is concerned about the integrity of the investigation. Not everyone had blind faith in LEO. I did until my brother had ten years in on the job, and became an PBA advocate for his fellow officers. They protect their own like few others.

I don't see how it affects the integrity of the investigation. It is an initial statement made at a press conference. And it is about something that is not even that important anyway. It was sloppy, but not that big of a thing. jmo

Hello

I don't know if i should take that as a compliment or not but thanks

Has ur opinion on the case changed?

My opinion changed. Once I read all the available information including videos and autopsy

Especially if you listen to all the early witnesses statements and the ones made later, after Baden's autopsy. Photographs etc...

I do believe the community service was part of the recent proposals being discussed. Difficulty with that...already I'd bet 3/4 of the community service requirements are simply signed off on by a friend or acquaintance. Everyone knows someone that works at the YMCA or a church or a school or wherever and they just get them letters saying they did their community service whether they did it or not. Maybe there could be changes made to that as well.

That's not possible the way they handle 'community service' here. The LE heads up the 'volunteers' and they are taken out to pick up trash on the side of the road, for example. 6 hours at a time, wearing yellow vests and being watched like a chain gang. The cops sign off, not friends.

The evidence also suggest wilson's actions were criminal

Not to mention accordind to the ferguson pd wilson had no knowledge of the robbery ....even if he did suspect brown once the teen put his hands up to surrender that should have been the end of it

Wilson played judge, jury and executioner that day and should be held accountable

totally disagree with this post & there's many posts/links to support

but welcome to Websleuths :)

I thought no full autopsy reports were out? Ditto with photos of actual pictures showing OW's injuries.
I googled both and cannot find anything except references to them as if they exist- but they do not seem to.

I am not sure which actions would be considered criminal. I don't think it will turn out that way after the evidence is all in.

It doesn't matter if Wilson knew about the robbery. Brown knew, thus the assault on the officer.

And there is not agreement concerning the hands up claim. But nearly all witnesses agree that Brown continued to move towards the officer. They were only 7 to 10 feet apart, so that is considered a threat, coming from someone who already tried to grab your weapon.

The 'judge, jury executioner' cliche is not applicable in this case, imo.

I specifically said Baden's autopsy ...which disproves most of the early witness statements that claimed he was shot in the back while running away as well as those that claim Wilson stood over him and fired repeatedly.

These were taken the day he testified. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1411152344.246850.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1411152353.086655.jpg

Looks very swollen and bruised to me, not a typical a black eye considering assault happened a month ago

Baden commented on his findings after his autopsy, so did the other "lack of integrity" guy . . .

I saw pictures of ODW from the day he testified in front of the GJ earlier this week

My experience has been the exact opposite

As more witnesses come forward the more convinced i am that wilson shot brown after the teen had surrendered with his hands up

The witnesses with the exception of the young man who didnt witness the shooting in its entirety all agree mike brown had his hands up before wilson fired the last fatal shots

The autospy fits he was shot multiple times in his arms, forearm

Not one first hand witness seen mike brown rush wilson.... two have however stated brown looked to have stumbled forward but it wasnt a bull rush which wilson claims

None of the witnesses actually have said brown was shot in the back ...they said his body jerked as if he had been shot and its still possible a bullet had grazed his arm, hand as he was running
