The real issue not being addressed is too many young people are being shot and killed in our inner cities that have nothing, nothing to do with the police. This should be the call, this should be the outrage. In St. Louis last night a one year old and her 23 year old father were shot in the BACK. The baby is in critical, unstable condition.

Imo this may be an initial underlying reason/reaction of some the sincere non-violent protestors, they may feel they are in a desperate situation, how to get rid of the violence in their own neighborhoods by criminals and then may feel like police aren't doing enough but cannot express that, so they take it out on police (even if it's unreasonable).

I think of places like Afghanistan when military is going after taliban etc. the locals may appreciate it, but some also become resentful of their presence. Some U.S. neighborhoods are like warzones and even bragged about like a badge of honor by criminals ("Chiraq") Idk jmo. Lots of soul-searching needed to sort what the problems are...imo.

Will you march with the protestors?

I am sure I will check out the scene. But like many here, I don't agree with the entirety of their message and think that their message isn't even clear because of the overlap between the MB/OW case and the other social issues being faced, particularly in north county. Simply because I don't get up in arms over people making their voices heard like others do does not mean I agree with their message or agree with their tactics.

oh yeah, the students look interested NOT!

IMHO they don't even know how hard Rev MLK fought for them . . . and gave his life for the Dream of equality

not that this has anything to do with the Tea in China but DJs brother was killed right outside Riverview Gardens HS -- drag racing . . .

You know what "logic" defies me? One: the nasty attitude and blatant disrespect some have for LE (until, of course, they have need of their services), and Two: the suggestion that OW is a criminal, because I don't know what else to make of the "future criminals" reference in your post. Obviously, you were referring to someone being a current criminal to have to even mention future criminals...I only see one criminal here, and that is, by logic, the person who (on tape) steals from, and bullies store clerks.

Alleged criminal?!?!?! Suspect?!?!?!?! Subject of the investigation!?!?!?! What is a person who is before a grand jury called???? Whatever that is, substitute that term if that is more palatable.

I don't care one way or the other what anyone's message is...I can either agree with it or not.
I'm all for protesting in a productive way.
The problem is with the delivery and tactics.

All IMO

are there typically that many Lambs fans tailgating, I mean Rams? Maybe for Monday Night Football & the chance to be on TeeVee but honestly, I usually get Rams tickets given to me due to the lack of interest; last game (last yr) I went to was Bears/Lambs & there were many more Bears fans in the Dome than Rams fans

Now Cardinal Fans - we always pack the Stadium with > 46K people :)

I see people for Rams games that literally can't give their tickets away and just leave them under someone's wipers on their car for someone to take. If I were the Rams, I'd offer every protester a ticket (just make sure the seats are spread throughout the stadium). I bet the number of protesters remaining on the streets would be minimal and the Rams would have their biggest attendance of the year.

That's brilliant actually!

Good luck with that lofty endeavor Mr. Mayor. He'll likely be shouted down within the first few minutes.

No question he will be shouted down but these are good first steps to reconnecting with the community. Mayor Knowles is slowly but surely earning some points back in my book. He owned up to his misstep of saying there is no racial divide in Ferguson. He's taking steps (I'm sure at the suggestion of the DOJ) to engage the community. If they're smart, they'll have members of the DOJ present as well. There's still distrust of the local government but I think if some of the DOJ is there to interact as well it may aid in making sure some dialogue occurs in between the shouts.

yep, another cr@ppy area of North City = Walnut Park where DJ grew up; certain areas of StL metro that I don't visit . . .

I get the outrage of someone being killed but this is an everyday occurrence in The Lou & it took a white cop shooting dead a black man for a community to be outraged?! Until "they" rid the areas of the criminal element, people will still be killed! And we wonder why so many murders in The Lou are never solved . . . Snitches Get Stitches

Efforts always need to be made to reduce crime but there will always be a criminal element. Because I think more highly of LEO's than I do the every day criminal, potential criminal behavior bothers me more when it's done by a LEO than a 🤬🤬🤬🤬.

Rams avg. 55-56K per game and usually draw that amount for prime time and vs. SF, but I probably over-estimated tailgaters. Bears always travel well and there are many local Bears fans on the Illinois side of the river. Tailgate lots were always full when I used to be a regular, even when the team stunk pre-Fisher. Back when OWS was hot and heavy, a small group came through our lot and it didn't go too well for them. You just don't bother the Natty Light and Chili crowd with political issues. Given this protest has an anti-LE theme, I'd think that would go over even worse. Lotta current and former cops in our lot. One other factor is people blocking the way into the Dome, those are prime minutes in that you only have a few to take a leak and get a beer before kickoff. Messing with timing honed to perfection just isn't a good choice.

Fortunately, there is no NLCS game currently scheduled that night, so there is no chance of having a Cardinal game overlap. Baseball fans have similar rules as football fans when it comes to passion, but I'm not sure the Birdo fans can match Rams fans in brawn, it's just a different type of crowd. Now, my hockey brethren are the type that they might go tailgate just for the sake of strength in numbers, seems they are always interested in a friendly scrum! LOL

eh, the thuggery affects me more than LEO; too many thugs & not enough LEO IMHO - although 3 LEOs live on my south City street & keep me in the know. IMHO what ODW did is not criminal but in self defense

I've been carrying a baseball bat on my shoulder when I'm out & about on foot (in addition to my CCW under my arm) - love my neighborhood watch program in south City (down by the River next to AB Brewery) regardless of race/religion/sexual orientation/gender, we are a strong community !!! Even though our shoe carnival was hit :)

My brother lives 5 minutes tops walking distance from the Shoe Carnival. There's always thuggery going on there. Won't get any argument from me about getting more LEO and better paid LEO if we can find the money. Thuggery bothers me more than LEO too. What I said is that I expect thuggery from thugs. I don't expect it from LEO. As to this case...you have your opinion and that's cool. I'm still waiting because I haven't even heard OW's version yet.

I think you make a legitimate observation, which is why I have been harping about proper leadership in urban communities. These out of town leaders seem to have less sense than the residents, they come in and fan the flames creating more animosity, then they will leave the residents to deal with the fallout. They need a leader who will come in and solve the internal problems within the community first (education, crime, poverty), then find out how much of an external problem (LE and government) they have. You can have an all-black PD and government who all fit the mold of MLK himself, does anyone really think that is the elixir that solves the internal problems? I think this is why these communities continue to look like war zones as you mentioned, they are in a cycle where everyone else is the problem.

It's funny how we argue back and forth about the whole walking down the middle of the street thing. Is that a big deal? Heavens no, it really isn't. But, when the community is full of people who would rather get out of the middle of the street without being asked, THAT is when you have progress. Those are choices that show people want improvement. If you refuse to move, it tells me people want struggle or want those around them to change, but they have no interest in changing themselves.

Sorry, just thinking out loud here.

I think MB/DJ walking down the middle of the street foreshadowed what followed. It showed arrogance, stupidity, resentment, and hostility, not just to OW but toward other people in general imo.

I may check it out, too, but don't have a WS tshirt -- will be wearing Cardinals Red. I'll be downtown @ Busch Stadium tonight/Fri/Sat/Sun night (unless the media changes Game Time to coincide with the Rams game on Sun -- no way, both are being televised :puke:) & if church let's out on time, I may ask some friends to venture north to LambsTown & mean RamsTown

Heck, I may have a NFL ticket to scalp/miracle to someone on Sunday Noon
