I've never seen anyone claim everyone in Ferguson is part of the rioters. Many here sat up and watched the riots live. We've discussed the Popsicle lady, the resident who went on camera to disagree with the highway shutdown, etc.

I disagree Snoopy. When they've been told it's dangerous to block a highway and could injure or harm others, yet they attempt to do it anyway, not to mention the gunfire, looting, projectiles, assaulting LE, etc, these aren't just petulant but harmless children. They keep escalating to force their will. That's dangerous. How far will they go? On twitter, there's talk about revolution and that nonviolence isn't always the way to go, etc.

It seems the longer this goes on, the smaller the group becomes.

I love how Umar Lee says at the end of his video, 'Peace'

Um, no :gaah:

He's a gem. see his tweets & website. Arrested by swat.

You know who we haven't heard from? Not one mainstream celebrity of any kind has come out in support of this cause. I remember when one of the NFL teams came out with hands up at the very beginning before a lot was known but nothing since. No mainstream African Americans standing up for MB. Hmmmm.....

I understand what you're saying. I just don't see the escalation. I see attempted escalation but in reality fizzling out of effect. There's still a group that manages to come up with some lofty ideas, but I don't see the boots-on-the-ground needed to carry it out.

As mentioned earlier, a group would be hard-pressed to get contraband into a game. Shoot, they can't even bring in their own beer bottles to throw. (And good luck creating a stir with empty plastic or paper cups...if they can afford them, that is: http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/blog/2011/10/rams-beer-most-expensive-in-nfl.html).

While any threats have to be taken seriously (and there's been enough threatening to take some folks down now, IMO), I just don't see any serious meat behind the threats. It's sort of like someone calling to threaten congress and then showing up with a pea-shooter. All bluff and bluster and noise, very little wind.

The more bragging and brashing these folks do with little effect, the less interest they'll invoke; the less interest the self-promoting media-hungries get, the more likely they will be to go away. More and more people are coming out and saying, "enough!"

And in this case: We are talking about football. We football fans take our football very seriously (there's a reason why we have Sunday games...it's our "second religion"), and the football powers-that-be aren't about to lose $$$ over this. We aren't talking an overwhelmed, shell-shocked city council here. We're talking about a private business organization used to dealing with "unruly situations" with plenty of warning to bolster their forces.

Just all MO of course. We'll just have to see how it plays out. Personally, I'll be hanging with the grandz at my grandson's seventh birthday party during this game (I'll watch My Steelers that evening, of course!), so I'll just rely on our good WSers to give me the high and low-lights.

Go Steelers. Protestors...just...Go Home.

Even more irony. Protesters that also include looters/rioters/brick throwers trying to get justice against an officer they believe unlawfully shot an 18 year old seek to get there message out by protesting an organization that includes guys that knockout their girlfriend in an elevator and beat their kids with a switch. I say we let them all into the dome and then lock the doors behind them.

No. Not serious.

:welcome2:

It was previously reported they heard cases on Wednesday, so it doesn't sound like it.

Don't remember where I read/heard it, not a forum post here or elsewhere though, that the GJ had recently submitted their personal schedules in order to facilitate plans for their meeting more often than just Wednesdays. Maybe the evidence is mostly in, and it's time for everyone but the jurors to leave the room while they decide what to do.

Not since the funeral, anyway...

Pretty ironic, isn't it?

Oh...wait....the NFL players were -- ....never mind.

How big has the biggest protest been? Several thousand MAYBE? Of those, how many were actually residents of Ferguson? And doesn't it seem that it is primarily the same people each occasion? Those protesting make up a small small fraction of the Ferguson community. The ones being violent make up even a smaller percentage. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ferguson is not all bad. I think some are catching on and noting how a lot of the crime even in Ferguson centers in a smaller area. That's also why some of the over generalizations to "they" and "those folks" and "people in Ferguson" and "blacks in Ferguson" bothers me as it does. There's a beautiful and historic part of Ferguson. There are really good people in Ferguson. A vast majority in fact. I've learned to take it for what I think/hope people mean and that is those who are protesting or becoming violent.

That's exactly who I mean :loveyou:

I loved the 'ya'll want a popsicle?' lady. I also loved seeing the pictures of the people of Ferguson cleaning up after the looting and after the protests. I enjoyed the stories of the children in Ferguson who just wanted to go back to school and the pictures of the teachers and parents that were meeting to teach in the library.

The problem is, that those stories were few and far between in the media. The angry, lazy, miscreants are what are being shown ad naseum.

yeah, the residents of the entire StL metro area are growing tired of this cr@p

“It’s not going to be a fun day Sunday at your beautiful Rams game, at your beautiful Ballpark Village and at your Cardinals game,” he said. "It won’t be a nice day driving home.”

Another protester gave a similar remark about the Cardinals making the playoffs, saying protesters would have an “October surprise.”

threatening MLB, too -- and Ballpark Village has strict rules for entry http://www.stlballparkvillage.com/

The leaders seems to have stepped back. Does this mean they no longer support the protestors?

"St. Louisans Speak Out About Ferguson" .... These people are far more representative of the black community than those on unfortunate display at the two council meetings imo.

IMO, they are stepping back because there is not enough media covering/attention for them. IMO, they don't care about the protesters or MB but just for themselves, their "fame and fortune".

http://news.stlpublicradio.org/post/editors-weekly-what-do-ferguson-protesters-want

.... lays out the various things various protest groups say they want done or fixed. Has there been a msm article explaining the vast gulf between how whites and blacks view this case with a perspective other than that whites are racist, ignorant, or insensitive?

If you drive without a license, registration, insurance, etc. you should get a ticket. Failure to appear will get you into trouble. Appearing and stating you do not have the money to pay the ticket is understandable because you were driving without paying for the privilege in the first place. There are other options that should be made available to citizens who really have no money. No job means no money. No job means that you are available to do community service, volunteering in your community to help others. It is another option. Certainly the city has jobs for those who would elect community service in lieu of paying a fine. If people are sincere there is no excuse to have an outstanding warrant over their heads. It also promotes dignity. I have never heard, although I am sure there are those that complain, anyone ever say they did not have a positive experience when doing community service. jmo

I was wondering more on the lines of the Federal Anti-Riot Act. There have been numerous violations I doubt have gone unnoticed on the Federal level.
