At 6:20 p.m. Thursday, the crowd bowed their heads and the chants went silent. They were hundreds strong, black and white and Asian, some tattooed, some clean-cut, wearing business casual and Cardinals gear and homemade red armbands in honor of the dead. Standing under the Gateway Arch, an iconic symbol of America’s promise, they raised their hands to the sky in tribute to Michael Brown, the young black teenager whose fatal shooting Saturday in a St. Louis suburb has opened deep wounds and turned a placid suburb into a war zone.

Protesters were asked to wear something red in honor of the dead..this is not a gang affiliation..

I think about what Officer Wilson feels....

Imagine how he feels, he got an accommodation from the city for a job well done, he was known as "polite", he had NO complaints from citizens, and now the city is in complete violent turmoil, businesses being burned, the police force "replaced", the subject of the national news, and he is blamed.

No matter how this turns out it is not good for him.

I believe they blame the Chief of Police, Jackson for that..not the officer..

He was asked by DOJ/Governor to not release it knowing it would ignite rage...and it did. He certainly accomplished what he was after..

I have just one question: if he was bettering his life why the hell was he stealing cigars the day of his unfortunate death?

Well. Rev Sharpton, I'm insulted when people bully and steal from people.

Among Michael Brown's neighbors, anger over a future lost

A woman who lives in the complex and asked not to be identified for fear of being targeted by residents and police said she heard the commotion and ran to her balcony. She said Brown threw his hands up in the air, shouting, "Don't shoot!"

"The officer kept shooting and he fell to his knees, begging for his life," the woman said. "That's when he finished him off, shot him in the head."

I hope she stepped forward to the FBI/DOJ...most witnesses accounts recite the same scenario...shot while surrendering, final shot to the head. That doesn't appear to be a good shoot...it appears to have been done out of anger...the young men didn't comply is no reason for a death sentence...

Are the looters, arsonists and last nights shooter not responsible for their own behavior?
Those that chose to ignore the curfew last night did not have free will???

What the heck?

Why are people not being held responsible for their own actions?

Mike Brown isn't here to answer that question...

They absolutely are responsible and 7 were arrested.

Where's the outrage over the shooting last night????
Where's the chant for justice?
Where are all the witnesses to THAT shooting?

Claiming a desire for "justice" while being law breakers and criminals is just stupid and counter-productive!

Don't worry, the outrage will come when they run out of the liquor and food they stole during the earlier riots.

The governor's words, AND the DOJ who wanted the robbery and assault suppressed, IMO, are complete and utter BS. Gov Nixon should be recalled, or at least voted out of office. That is simply outrageous.

On NBC's "Meet the Press," Nixon reiterated his disapproval of the decision to release the video.

"To attempt to in essence disparage the character of this victim in the middle of a process is not right. It’s just not right," he said. "And secondarily, it did put the community, and quite frankly the region and the nation, on alert again. These are old wounds. These are deep wounds in these communities. And that action was not helpful."

Wow. :thud:

The governor's words, AND the DOJ who wanted the robbery and assault suppressed, IMO, are complete and utter BS. Gov Nixon should be recalled, or at least voted out of office. That is simply outrageous. No one dredged up parking tickets or graffiti charges from 5 years ago-- MB violently and aggressively robbed and assaulted TEN MINUTES before the encounter when he assaulted the police officer and was shot. TEN MINUTES. TEN MINUTES. That is HIGHLY relevant to the encounter with Officer Wilson. I am dumbfounded that any human being would think that is not highly relevant. Entirely relevant. I am sorry that the TRUTH HURTS and upsets people, but the TRUTH is what we are supposed to be working toward.

The TRUTH is that MB robbed a store and assaulted a clerk TEN MINUTES before he was shot during the encounter with Officer Wilson. FTLOG, TEN MINUTES.

I'm not worried about crooked beat cops in this situation anymore. I think the worst corruption is at the highest levels-- the governor, a heavily biased Ron Johnson, who has posed in uniform in the last few days for simply outrageous pictures (self edited because the pictures probably can't be linked here, pics for which he should be immediately fired, IMO), media bias in their reporting, etc. Unbelievable. Outrageous. Staggering.

Really-- seven people arrested last night?? Seven? Should have been about 207, maybe 307, more, from the pictures and video. The handling of this whole situation, rioting and looting, etc is biased and rotten to the core, IMO.

ITA. Yer preachin to the choir. This "can't we all please be friends" approach is ridiculous.

I don't blame the peaceful protestors but they need to get registered to vote and go to the polls. The problem isn't the cops, the problem is the community's elected officials.

Actually, it's up to interpretation ...if he was continuing to advance on the officer in a menacing way we all witnessed he's capable of. It was most certainly justified.
We saw him menacingly advance on the shopkeeper ...

So leading the public to believe he was on a leisurely stroll to granny's house and gunned down for no reason is a narrative that would quell the violence?

The Truth is always better, IMO

That just made me envision Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf.

If Gov. Nixon actually referred to MB as "this victim" that is freaking astounding.

Kiss your political career goodbye Gov. Nixon.

I will have to review his initial interview, but that sounds correct. I am in the process of trying to recreate the entire crime scene to determine the integrity of the witness accounts. So far, I have some issues with some of the statements. Anyone remember hearing about a white Monte Carlo?

I heard it somewhere, not sure, maybe witness Tiffany? JMO

Why? Are you a moderator?

It is what it is and it did inflame people.

After Captain Johnson got it calm, he ignited the flames again..that's my belief, opinion..

No,
I'm not a moderator. I apologize. I have no business requesting you to post a certain way.
I'm just confused by the inconsistency.
