Reporters and others are choking on the gas.

The police didn't mention the cigars until they released the video. It wasn't illegal for Brown to possess cigars. He was 18.

Sorry. I don't understand your comment at all. Did you see my original comment? It was my first one here and it doesn't sound like you are replying to that. Which is fine. We are all busy watching the live coverage now!

I am not a black male. I think I am fairly intelligent, but I don't get it. Why are they not waiting for the investigation? Now they they have found out more details, why can't they say this might not be an example of corrupt LE? Why do they keep up the hate and distorted accounts? Credibility is lost when this is done. Why do they stereotype LE while they protest about being stereotyped?
Honest question- will I never understand because I am not a black male? Jmo and TIA

Glady, I want to understand. I really do. Tia

Because again, the issue is bigger than just MB. Not having experienced it, maybe it is hard for you or the people in the picture to accept that there are places where harassment and overuse of force against black males happens. If you can accept that this happens, then maybe you can understand that this particular case is simply a flashpoint for accumulated anger at injustices.

Because I am a supporter of non-violent resistance such as sit-ins. I disagree with the curfew. I would like to see a community empowered and acting in solidarity in protest.

Okay, I strongly disagree, but respect your opinion. :)
I'm watching the so-called "protest" at this very moment, if you are watching as well, could you explain if what we are watching is a "protest"? I feel that what I am watching very, very dangerous behavior. Most of the "protests" have been so far. IIRC one was not. This insane mayhem!

Exactly. Plus, the Governor has declared an emergency and implemented a curfew. It's done all the time during natural disasters hit a community such as a tornado or flood.

JMO

Exactly, here in Louisiana a curfew is often put into effect during and after a hurricane. We don't see it having our rights trampled. We see it as a wise safety measure that protects everyone and makes it easier on first responders and other who need to get things done without people running rampant. I see nothing wrong with the curfew being called and strictly enforced. LE, first responders and others need a chance to take a break instead of running almost 24 hours a day in very volatile situations.

Police have arrived and are at a stand off with protestors, tear gas being used!

Watching feeds and reports from folks on the scene, it sounds like a very young crowd tonight. We all know teens and young men are hot heads (WTO demonstrations are another good example of this). I wish there were more mature adults on scene to demonstrate peaceful resistance. They probably -very reasonably!- felt safer staying at home. But they are needed out there to set an example for the younger folks!

Watching Vice's live feed, I'm cracking up, thinking, "Hey, it's Skinny Pete!" :D

IMO this whole mess is easy to understand.

I hear you, although most of my ancestors came to the US in the 1870s, I have one Revolutionary War vet and one Civil war vet (northern side) in my family tree, and my grandfather was a WWII vet. I feel bad that we're throwing away everything they fought for on my watch, but I don't know what I can do about it. I did work on my garden some to make my little part of the world look better. I do believe an environment of physical ugliness does breed mental illness in people. Awhile back I wrote some theories about how we got to this point in society, I thought later I should have mentioned living in ugly surroundings. I have a book that shows how gardening reduced crime in parts of New York City. I don't know how you come out of an environment of dilapidated buildings and strip malls with a healthy state of mind, frankly. And even if you can afford good food and have a grocery store to go to, I've heard it's as little as 10% as nutritious as food was 100 years ago because the soil it's grown in is depleted. IQ points are down in the US by 10 points in the last 100 years, I have heard. Many old homes have lead in them and that's been cited as a factor that causes crime. Here is a link to my previous attempt to answer this question - http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...of-teen-Michael-Brown&p=10852947#post10852947

Very interesting. Gardening is something humans do as it is in their genes. Every human wants to grow something. Humans are not meant to live in crowded areas.
