This is awful for everybody. For Brown to be dead so young, for his mother who lost her son, for the officer who I 100% believe felt Brown left him no other option, and his family who have to be terrified, to all the kids who can't go to school, people who have had their businesses burned and looted, all the police officers putting themselves in harms way, and their families worrying every night if they will come home safe or not. Praying for all of them. One of our pastors lives there and is down there trying to keep people calm, so I'm praying for him too.
All that said, I can't help but feel angry. People convicted this officer of murder in this town before we knew anything at all. The President today cited the mistrust between the Ferguson community and LE. And I can believe that mistrust exists. However, this has just been flat out racism against this officer. Let the evidence speak. If it justifies a trial try him, if not, let him pick up the pieces of his life. Mob violence aimed at securing one outcome only, regardless of the evidence, is wrong and an affront to civil rights. Is the genie out of the bottle? Is this just the way things are now? If so, it's both shameful and terrifying.
