I work with a lady whose son has had him for 3 days in ISS. And then I just learned that this guy is from the town I live in and dated my dh cousin in high school.

No. I think this will turn out to be a matter of details. The alert is cancelled - but LE didn't call them to cancel it, IMHO. If this is truly just a matter of extreme hair-splitting, this is very irresponsible of whoever tweeted that because it makes it appear she isn't deceased and people should still be looking for her.

OK....so it takes 2 hours to get out an Amber Alert (with perfect information that may have helped resolve this before it got ugly)....then after the body of this precious child is located, the police are leaving the Amber Alert on?

Issuing an Amber Alert in Missouri seems to be a bit involved. There is a form to fill out and submit. Here's details from the Missouri Highway Patrol:

1. LOCAL AMBER ALERT - Issue a local AMBER or SARAA alert. If you do not

(CA) flag through the law enforcement computer system available in your area

I am so saddened to hear what has happened and by whom. The reality is that whether this guy was an RSO or if he was just flying under the radar for decades, he was going to abduct Hailey. I doubt she knew him (my kids have no clue who the teachers are at the other schools in our town) and I don't think he planned to take her in particular. It was a nice day and I'm sure lots of people were out and about, especially kids playing in the yards (or walking home from a friend's house). He was just waiting for the perfect prey. Dear God!

Who knows how long it would have taken to find this , if they hadn't been so aware and actually chose to get involved. Sure, we can sit behind our computers and say what we would have done or what they should have done, but they were the heroes in this tragedy, IMO.

I am wondering how the property that was searched on Highway T last night plays into the timeline and evidence. This report (see link below at ~3:20) came out last night at 10pm (maybe it was 11pm). We, like the reporter, still believed that the suspect was at large. However, now it's been confirmed that the was apprehended in his vehicle outside of his home at around 8:30pm.

Does anyone know if Hailey was found at his home or at Phelps Grove Park or elsewhere? The park is not far from where Wood was located.

Its interesting that they located him in his vehicle which was sitting in his driveway.

It makes me wonder if he had just arrived back home from discarding Hailey's little body.

Yet in this case there was time enough for the witnesses to see Wood make 4-5 slow passes down that same block and time enough to sit there listening to Wood converse with the little girl *prior* to him even opening his door, jumping out, then grabbing her.

Sorry, I don't agree in the least. But it seems some ppl would react quick, while others at a snails pace, sadly for the girl.

Unfortunately i think we will learn its because he was yet another pervert who has been flying under the radar.

Other thoughts -

If he was so bold as to grab Hailey in a well populated residential street, with witnesses sitting outside, then I think he HAS to have been up to some ish before now. Whether its acts directly upon other children, or child somewhere on his computer or in his possession. No one suddenly becomes a Pedo at his age. He's been indulging his disgusting perversion before now. :furious:

That's the million dollar question - I realize you literally aren't asking "why".

The penalty for having sex with a child isn't much less than the penalty for snatching a child, having sex with her, and killing her.

I don't know what we can do, as a society, to keep pedophiles from acting on their sexual preference. It seems they are willing to risk life in prison, being labeled for life as a sexual offender, or even the death penalty to satisfy this urge.

What would you think, honestly, if you saw this playing out? I would think the man was looking for a specific address, a specific child he is responsible for, a dog or cat, a cell phone that flew off the top of a car, etc. You do see people driving round and round in an area doing just those things, especially in broad daylight. Even when he pulled up to the girl, I would assume he was asking something innocent because that's usually the case when a car pulls up beside a pedestrian and engages them.

It's extremely rare that he would then snatch her and race off.

There needs to be tougher laws/punishment so that the next will think twice before grabbing a child and doing as he wishes with them.

Really? A snails pace? His wife runs in to call 911 while dude runs after the truck and memorized the plate number, make and color?

Why are people attacking the witness here? Do you know how many times I see cars in my street circling? I keep a watch because we have a lot of neighborhood kids, but most of the time they'll circle about 8 times before I will go do/say something. Usually it's someone looking for their dog that got loose, nurses from the hospital next door smoking (they banned smoking on premises so now they drive our hood lol), someone lost and looking for a road or place (I've approached people and asked what's up if they look really suspicious). Any one of those times while I've stood in my yard or looking out the window deciding whether its suspicious enough to go do/say something, a kid could have walked by and been thrown in the vehicle.

The fault is squarely on the perp. Cripes I hope these witnesses aren't reading what people are saying. Guy was obviously shook up in that interview, said how upset his wife was, they probably already feel horrible enough!
