I completely agree. This would fall under the category of "belief there was a crime in progress" occurring - and you don't need a warrant to bust in and search in that case.

It was confusing trying to sort out the details of that news conference, so this may be wrong--but it was my impression that they possibly did do an initial "cursory" look (which may have included breaking the door down) and what they saw from that determined they needed to get a search warrant fast (for the more involved search).
