I've seen several cases recently where the witnesses have been criticized. Makes me wonder if people DO NOT come forward for fear of this. It sounds like the couple did everything they possibly could do. Without them, this guy could still be out there (or in school today... shudder).

The answers aren't good but thanks to the quick and heroic actions of Mr. Edwards and his wife, Hailey's family has answers this morning.

Condolences to Hailey's family and gratitude for Mr. and Mrs. Edwards.
****
"....Describing his shock while recounting what he saw, Edwards said he tried to run after the truck as his wife got the license number and called 911.

He spoke with concern about the girl and surprise that the man had grabbed the girl right in front of him."

A friend at work her son was in ISS yesterday she plans to talk with him after they get home tonight. Especially to see if he was there and to find out anything else. She is very upset.

:(. I can imagine the feelings these parents have. When I returned to work after being a SAHM for 5 years, I placed my children in a daycare run by a church. A month later, a daycare worker at that center was arrested for raping 5 or 6 girls. It's horrifying to wonder if your child had contact with such a monster! (Thankfully mine did not!).

I completely agree. This would fall under the category of "belief there was a crime in progress" occurring - and you don't need a warrant to bust in and search in that case.

On the other hand, she was already deceased so that wouldn't have made any difference.

Except to her family. Discovering Hailey earlier could have possibly made her families' agony a little less.

Not what I was hoping to wake up to. :-(

Gonna catch up on reading now.

Intellus shows him in Springfield and prev Ash Grove so I would think this is him.

Ash Grove is near here. And there are 9 listed RSO in that small town. Amazing.

Well, I read all of the comments for Sprintfield news. i was hoping there would be a poster that knew him or knew of him. No one seems to be speaking up. Did anyone look on facebook? I don't have access.

Press release on PD page:

Police confirm body is found at 1538 E. Stanford

We are now able to confirm that we have discovered a young female body pursuant to a search warrant at 1538 E. Stanford. While she has not been positively identified, we have a high degree of confidence that it is Hailey Owens. An official finding, regarding identity and cause of death won’t be determined until after an autopsy is performed.

I followed Hailey's thread last night, went to bed, and hoped not to see those two dreaded words, "Found Deceased" when I woke up this morning. And there they are again. So this monster (I love animals and he does not deserve to be put in the same category.) borrows a truck from a relative to abduct and murder a child? I suppose had he not been arrested he would not miss a beat, be at school right now mingling with everyone's children. Now he won't even admit what he has done to this darling little girl? I posted the RSO map of Springfield that had more red dots than white space but what is more scary is he wasn't even one of them! How many of these ******** have and will never be caught? If not for the witnesses, he probably would have gotten away with it. May he rot in prison, then hell and may Hailey join all those other innocent little children in a beautiful place surrounded with puppies and toys, and kindness and love.

This will hopefully be a Death Penalty case; he doesn't deserve to be in jail. IMHO

Holy crap.

1 or 2 children missing every month in Greene County (where Springfield is) from July-October. Similar things around the state, too, going back to the 90's. I can't even find any results for them on Google, much less threads on here.

If those neighbors had gone inside for a glass of water, Hailey could've seemingly vanished into thin air as well.

Could not find him on FB.

Sadly I highly doubt this is the killer's first crime of kidnapping or murder, imoo.

Yet in this case there was time enough for the witnesses to see Wood make 4-5 slow passes down that same block and time enough to sit there listening to Wood converse with the little girl *prior* to him even opening his door, jumping out, then grabbing her.

Sorry, I don't agree in the least. But it seems some ppl would react quick, while others at a snails pace, sadly for the girl.

Woods grabbed her through the driver's side window and pulled her in, he never got out of the truck and the male witness ran after the truck while his wife called 911. I would say that the witness did everything that he could.

I hope they tear that house up from top to bottom!

I cannot speak for that state but in Michigan if you shoot over your limit you can be charged by the dnr?

Another friend from work her husband is a teacher there and her daughter also goes to school there. She said her husband was okay at first but is becoming very shaken up over it.

Just so hard to imagine this sort of thing happening in your own back yard and in the bible belt of USA. First we had the little girl taken by her dad earlier this week and now Hailey...My heart is breaking for her family.
