My guess would be that it was dropped when he snatched her up, but obviously that's just a guess. Poor sweet girl.......

She was found INSIDE the house.

Thanks. Could he have buried her in a crawlspace? They would still leave the body there for hours though until everything was photographed including everything in the home.

Most pedophiles are really outgoing. That is why they are able to abduct or molest children. They seem very friendly and unassuming at the time. That is the façade they put up to prey on their victims.

he went to hs in Marshfield and that is where he grew up. Marshfield is a very small town east of Springfield no college there.

I can honestly say I have never been more shocked about something happening like this in my community. And to have known of the man. It is appalling. He is the coach of some of my friends' kids and has more than likely had contact with my ex-step daughter.

How very sad. I would almost bet that Hailey was not his "first" victim. I hope that LE does some major investigating with the children this monster has come in contact with.

Something is seriously wrong with our system when it takes at least 2 hours to issue an AMBER Alert in a known and witnessed abduction. I realize that things take time, but there just has to be exceptions to the process sometimes. I forget the exact statistic, but something like 3/4 children abducted by strangers are killed within the first 3 hours, and 9/10 are dead within the first 24. It took more than 2 hours for an alert to be issued. Hailey was probably dead before the Alert went out. (And by general circumstances, this Alert did go out VERY quickly. I've seen them take 6+ hours, or up to a few days in the past.)

What a desperate, brazen guy to snatch her off the street like that. Reminds me of Ben Ownby (which lead to him and Shawn Hornbeck being found alive, also in MO). Unfortunately this didn't have the same ending.

Her bday was 8/18/03, so yesterday, being 2/18, was her half-birthday. I know that isn't much to us grown-ups, but it's something special kids like to mention, at least the kids I know. That makes me even sadder.

From what I saw last night ... they found her so quickly because the witness had a plate number. They ran the plate, found the owner of the truck. The vehicle owner led LE to Wood's house.

It doesn't often happen that we have that much detail, most recent was Cherish Perriwinkle. But her Mama let the RSO take her (MOO)

Thank God this witness and his wife were paying attention!

I think it's a bit unfair to criticize the witness in this case. I see your point, but he certainly did A LOT of good things that led to the arrest of this monster and discovering Hailey. We have no idea if screaming beforehand would have, in fact, scared away the perp.
