Realistically, I think you're probably right. :( Which to me means it probably wasn't the first time.

The prudent thing now would be to go back in his history to every single place he has lived and see if there are missing children matching this age group.

I'll bet dollars to donuts he's done this when he was much younger.

This is all too cold and calculating for a spontaneous, desperation.

He brought her to his house! This is a rare act indeed. This also speaks volumes to the comfortability he thought he had.

:furious::furious::furious:

Would someone please help me understand how they had the suspect and didn't enter this home until hours later?

They must have already known she was deceased. They had to have.

The probable cause statement said they did go in right away and did a safety sweep and at that time they found the body. I think they wanted make sure all the evidence would be admissible so they then obtained a warrant. I would forgive them if they lied about when the warrant was obtained to make sure the case against this !#!#!#! Is airtight.

But shooting her just seems messy and leaves too much evidence. And in his own house ?

His home may have been the perfect place. He lived alone so no one to walk in on him. He would have had all the time in the world to clean up the scene and dispose of her little body. Where would this case be without those witnesses---I shudder to think about it. If the witnesses hadn't provided the license plate number and such a good description, I'm betting LE would still be going through the RSOs in the area, trying to figure out which one it was and never solving the case.

Thank you and I agree I could care less if they lied to get this airtight. Also, at least we won't have to sit through months of having this 🤬🤬🤬 described as 'Alleged killer'. Eye witnesses place the man there.

THANK YOU !! Very, very much. I usually make these maps myself but I'm getting old and lazy.

From the pictures of the perp's home, it seemed like the homes were really close together. I'm hoping there are witnesses in his neighborhood that will testify what they saw.

This whole case makes my heart hurt.

But he had neighbors, all around!! How did he restrain her while he was driving? How did he get her inside his home? Not like he had a garage with a door opener to pull the vehicle into. Very risky IMO.

:tantrum:

Having looked at the FB page for his band, I wonder if LE will take a look at all of the places they played. It looks like they traveled to several counties and towns in Missouri. JMO but he could have been committing crimes in any of these places also.

RIP Hailey. Angels in Heaven have you wrapped in their arms.

This is just so crushing. To have something like this happen here is just unfathomable. I sat up all night watching this case before finally passing out on the couch around 4, and saw the horrible news this morning after I dropped my babies off at school. Hailey is the niece of a good friend of ours. I just can't even begin to comprehend the pain they're feeling.
I saw that someone else posted a link to the Porch Lights for Hailey Owens page. It's really something else to see the pictures from all over the world being posted in remembrance of this little angel. We moved about a half an hour from Springfield a few years back and even here every light is on. There will also be a candelight vigil at 8 p.m. on Commercial Street in Springfield for any other locals here who may wish to attend. https://www.facebook.com/events/197146900495585/?ref=22

I'm so angry and heartbroken tonight, words escape me.

Sending blessings and enormous hugs to the witnesses who tried so hard to save this darling, the officers who had to recover her body, and most importantly tonight...Hailey's family and loved ones. Bless all of you and I pray that justice is swift.

I can't help but feel for CW's father as well.

We would like to thank all of you, the Springfield community, as well as the dozens of communities near and far that helped spread the word of Hailey's abduction. You often witness the strength of a community in the way they handle a tragic situation, and we couldn't be more proud of the citizens' concern and assistance in this matter. We have also received countless messages of your encouragement... and support, and for that, we are truly grateful. We certainly wish more than anything that this event could have had a different conclusion. If there's any positive news in this at all, it's that the suspect is no longer on the streets of Springfield. Please keep the family and friends of Hailey in your thoughts and prayers. #HaileyOwens

News of Wood’s arrest shocked family and friends. He apparently never married and did not have children. A friend who met Wood at his parents’ home said he was nice and polite.

But Wood didn’t socialize with his neighbors, according to Dena Atchley, who lives five houses away from him.

Atchley saw him drive his truck to work every morning, passing her teenage daughter who was walking to her bus stop. Wood never approached her daughter or spoke to Atchley.

His arrest unsettled neighbors, Atchley said.

About three and a half hours passed between Hailey’s abduction and Wood’s arrest.
Prosecutor Patterson praised the actions of the witnesses and the work of law enforcement.
“To locate this suspect, this offender, within just over three hours is a remarkable response,” Patterson said. “It is a tragedy that it was not quick enough to save Hailey, but I don’t believe there’s anything else they could have done in this case to have done that. We are fortunate that through all their actions, however, we were able to capture him and he will be brought to justice.”

My guess is he hit her in the head and knocked her out in the pick up or he told her to cooperate and he wouldn't hurt her or if she didn't cooperate, he would kill her. Obviously, she must have been terrified if she was conscious and wouldn't have had much choice but to do what she was told. I noticed the pick up is pulled up to the right side of the house. Maybe there is a side door to the house and he pulled her out of the pick up and shoved her into the house. The pick up would have blocked the view of the neighbors to the right. I agree, it was risky but then everything he did was extremely high risk and stupid. He had to have known he was going to be caught after the witnesses chased after his vehicle but he didn't care---he was going to do what he was going to do no matter what.
