This part caught my attention.

"My son had minimal contact with him. He said he just would not get a good vibe off of him. Creeped him out," says Marretta Gunder.

Gunder says she got the same feeling her son did after she saw Wood in the school hallway one day.

"Grabbing himself and his private area. He wouldn't smile. He acted odd," says Gunder.

"I think he had some problems in his head. But I do think that he was a good guy, especially as a football coach," says Wassam.

Inevitably, there is something off about those people. I see this over and over.
That quote kills me, he kidnapped, (more than likely raped), and killed a child, he was grabbing hisself, he didn't smile, he was odd, he was off in the head....so what EXACTLY made him "a good guy"?????? the fact that he was a foot ball coach???? People need to learn to trust their instincts, this sounds like her instincts were SCREAMING at her not to trust this guy...but he is a good football coach so she ignored them and decided he was "a good guy"

Aren't those two different people talking about Wood?

Look at who was being quoted in the news article. The one saying he was weird and grabbed his crotch was a mother/son pair with one last name. Then a 2nd person was interviewed and he was the one who said he was a good guy.

Justice for Hailey segment on Nancy Grace right now. What is this million trust thing? What does that have to do with anything?

The prosecutor told the judge that he shouldn't get a public defense because he has a
$1M Trust Fund. If he does I'd bet his parents names are on it as co-owners just like his house and truck in his dad's name. Unless that trust is just in his name alone, they can't touch it.

agreed jggordo. If the trust simply houses his future (heir) interest in the family property or if there are other beneficiaries of the trust or a million other ifs could make that trust untouchable and cannot be considered an asset which can be liquidated to foot the bill for legal fees.

  • #929
the very act of creating a trust is most often about protecting assets or future assets from being forced into liquidation. Usually to attempt to protect those assets or funds from being accessed for anything other than their preintended purpose.

Sometimes they are created to prevent someone who receives a settlement from losing a government benefit such as disability or SNAP. Sometimes as a way to protect your own assets from being lost to your children (like a family farm) by forced liquidation by the state in order to repay funds expende for end of life care (Medicaid).

Those sorts of trusts are irrevocable and are very strictly structure in what those funds can and cannot be used for.

MOO

* Not a lawyer but spend a lot of time with them and have read a lot of trusts created by them for various reasons ;)

I believe it will be interesting to see how supportive, or not his parents will be of their son at this point. I'm talking about this case where a little girl's body is found in your son's basement. If my son were to do something like this, he would only get one more visit from me. To tell him it was last one. Son or no son.

And in my opinion, that house is in CMW's name but ALSO the parents. Down the line I believe they could be on the hook for civil damages for what happened on that property. Any legal eagles could weigh in on that better. But I do think they better keep those hot shot attorneys on retainer. JMO

It could well be set up as a family trust for tax purposes too. That way all the dividends and interest earned year stays in the trust. So as not taxable until paid out. When I was an accountant I was the executor of a couple trusts. Taught me to never do it again EVER.
What a pain.

That made me actually lol. Yes, tax sheltering trusts are common as well.

I only hope arguing about how the trust can be interpreted or if it can be broken does not delay the already often slow moving wheels of justice.

Oh I agree all the way. Give the jerk all the legal assistance he needs or wants. I don't believe it will make any difference. But the last thing anyone wants is an "ineffective counsel" appeal down the line. Make it stick, I say.

How the Amber Alert Failed Hailey Owens

Marc Klass

Hailey Owens is the victim of a broken Amber Alert system. Hailey was kidnapped in front of witnesses in the 3200 block of West Lombard St., in Springfield, MO at 4:48 p.m. on February 18, 2014. By 5:00 p.m. the witness had provided local law enforcement with the suspect’s description, vehicle make, color & license plate. Based on eyewitness accounts and the information provided to law enforcement, the Amber Alert should have been issued in minutes. Unfortunately, Springfield PD is not authorized to issue Amber Alerts. That is the responsibility of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

At 6:00 p.m. the Springfield PD issued a news release and posted information about the abduction to their social media sites. Unfortunately, a news release carries neither weight no the sense of urgency of an Amber Alert. A statewide Amber Alert was issued at 7:07 p.m., two-hours and nineteen-minutes after Hailey was kidnapped. Information was distributed to all area law enforcement agencies and media outlets. The suspect’s description, vehicle make, color & license plate were finally released to the public.

IMO That article should be sent to every news station this week.

Our family motto, raising my kids, was "do it right or do it twice"... I like yours better in this scenario.

KOLR10/ KOZL - Springfield, MO

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The man accused in the death of 10-year-old Hailey Owens is being kept away from other inmates.

"We have to implement certain procedures that we wouldn't otherwise do," Major Kevin Spaulding said. "We have him on what's called a three-officer watch."

Jailing Craig Wood, who is accused first degree murder, armed criminal action, and child kidnapping, is an around-the-clock job for Greene County corrections officers.
