How do you get a tongue lacerated vertically? I just cannot imagine how that could happen! Unless it was cut. That is the only way I can see a vertical laceration.

It is horrible how this happens time and time again, abused children returned to the home only to end up dead. I can't even imagine what type of monster could do these things to a child. I certainly can't see how any mother would allow it.

Kyle W. Cooper, 27 of Blue Springs, pleaded guilty to abuse of a child (resulting in death), and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Jackson County Circuit Judge Robert Schieber, after Cooper admitted to the charges, sentenced him to 20 years in state prison...

“I saw the body,” the boy’s father, Robert Burnett, told The Examiner. “I saw everything they did to him. The physical damage they did to him, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.”

According to Missouri DOC, Helmes is serving 10 years for second degree murder:
