I just googled his case - and quite surprised I got an article on yesterday's hearing!!

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. — The judge presiding over the Kylr Yust trial ruled Thursday that testimony and a wiretap from an ex-girlfriend of Yust can be heard during the trial.

Attorneys representing Yust had filed a motion to keep the testimony and wiretap out of the trial, alleging it was coerced.

According to prosecutors in 2008, Yust allegedly confessed to his-then girlfriend Katelyn Farris to killing Kara Kopetsky who went missing the previous year.

Also on Thursday, attorneys agreed to interview potential jurors in groups of 60 to 80 people at a time.

Questionnaires are already out to prospective jurors, with jury selection slated to start March 29 in St. Charles County, outside of St. Louis.

Jurors will be brought to Cass County and sequestered throughout the trial, which is expected to last three weeks.

Opening statements are set to begin April 5.

Finally!

@Niner I keep searching CaseNet of Missouri and still don't come up with his case. I am not sure what happened to it. Maybe they are re-working it since they took some of the charges out. idk

That could be. At the last hearing the Judge was going allow his ex-girlfriend testimony about him confessing to her. Maybe trial continuance? I have that jury selection is supposed to 3/29, with the trial starting 4/5.

@Jewels53 - since I'll be gone for a few days - was wondering if the trial is still "a go" on Monday, 3/29?

TIA! :)

@Niner I just checked Case Net Missouri and there is still nothing on Kylr Yust.

I hope something shows up next week. I can still check while I am at my quilt retreat as I will have my computer with me. I don't go until April 4th.

3/4/21 Update: Yust’s defense team had filed a motion for a change of judge after they say they received an anonymous letter alleging connections between Judge William Collins and the victims’ families. Collins denied the claims but did ask the state’s high court to appoint a senior judge to hear the motion. There will be no change in judge for Yust’s trial, another judge appointed by the Missouri Supreme Court ruled Wednesday morning. Judge Brandon Baker from Henry County said the defense didn't show enough evidence for a new judge to preside over the case. Judge Baker also ruled Wednesday that defense counsel Collins needs to make a decision on whether or not the case will be moved to St. Charles County. Prosecutor Ben Butler asked to drop 2 counts of abandoning a corpse, a felony, which Judge William Collins granted in proceedings today, March 4. Next motions hearing on 3/5/21. Defendant to appear in person.

More than 50 people from St. Charles County spent the day going through questions that might put them on the jury, which would then send them across the state. Potential jurors gathered at St. Peter Catholic Church in St. Charles. Lawyers questioned them in the parish gymnasium.

One potential juror cited they are due for their second COVID-19 vaccine, and the court offered possible accommodations to make sure they could get it in Cass County if selected. Among the group was a software engineer, a cook, a funeral technician and a department manager at a local hospital.

A major topic during the day was domestic abuse and how it’s affected their lives. If they were comfortable, jurors were asked to explain experiences they’ve been through to the group, and if they could be impartial to testimony from alleged domestic violence victims.

A new group will appear for selection on Tuesday. Yust’s trial is set to start April 5 in Cass County.

In the second day of jury selection, 71 people were informed about the case and asked about potential biases or hardships.

Of the 71, 33 said the commitment to a three-week trial in Cass County would be a hardship, citing work and child care reasons.

Nine of the possible jurors had previously been impacted by domestic violence but none felt that affected their impartiality.

In the end, the prosecution and defense teams released 44 of the people questioned Tuesday.

The remaining 27 were asked to report again Wednesday in addition to 53 from Monday’s session.
