Christopher Abeyta was also kidnapped from his crib in the middle of the night. He was 7 months old. There have only been a handful of non-family abductions of infants taken from their cribs. Christopher is my brother and I slept in the next room over from him the night he was kidnapped. We did not hear a thing. My family always cooperated with LE, although I remember my Parents getting upset because they didn't think LE were doing enough. My mom failed the polygraph and once she did LE formed a myopic view and did not thoroughly investigate leads. I know firsthand when my Mom was being interrorgated they told her things like "your baby is at the bottom of the lake being eaten by vernom, just tell us what you did with him" They questioned her for hours upon hours. Ironically they didn't suspect my Dad, yet my Parents slept in the same bed and it was a waterbed! The kidnapper did not turn on any lights in our home and when she left but she did leave the front door open. We didn't have anything else missing, except we had been missing a garage door opener previously. No doubt my family was under suspicion because of the "how could you not hear anything?". "why didn't the baby wake up?" Watching Lisa's disappearance unfold brings back raw emotions and memories, and no family should ever have to endure waking up to an empty crib and the torment of "not knowing". My Parents have never given up searching for their son. We do have a suspect. Her name had been given to LE the day after my brothers disappearance and she was not investigated! It is really unbelievable. My Mom did all of the investigating on her own. Finally a review is being done of my brothers case because of my families persistance. Go to www.findchristopher.com to compare cases.

This is exactly the case that comes to mind when thinking about this one! I am so sorry this happened to you, but it is nice to know that somebody understands that it CAN happen. 2 questions - 1. is your suspect a 'familiar' entity to your family? and 2. is your neighborhood one of those like this where everybody knows everybody and is extremely quiet? Just curious but I bet I know the answers as yes.

So a week later, we are just now hearing about a handyman?

  • #623
I've always considered Richard Ricci "the handyman" but he was falsely accused.

He could have been one too, but BDM was hired to do handyman chores around the Smart's home...thus the handyman title.

Smart's mother testified that she and her children ran into Mitchell downtown and that she offered him a job doing handyman work at the family's home. One of her sons encouraged her to give him money, she said.

"He looked like a clean-cut, well-kept man that was down on his luck," she said. "I gave him $5."

Later, the family hired Mitchell to help fix a leaky roof, Lois Smart said. It was the only job he did for the family.

I knew all of this perfectly well.

I think we are getting a little off task here with the Brian David Mitchell, was he or wasn't he a handyman.

I'm more curious about the handyman in this case that LE apparently have been unable to talk to.

  • #626
He was not a handyman. He was a homeless man they invited to help to rake leaves.

Get your point, jjenny, but this is splitting hairs & caused many of us to "correct" the statement. And has not much to do with little Pumpkin Pie.

Getting back, hope we know more about the "handyman" soon.

:rocker: Sounds "hinky" -- don't ya think ?

I was just getting ready to post the same thing ... lol !

Hmmm ... that's all I will say for now ... :silenced::silenced:

MOO ...

Does anyone remember the Danielle Van Dam case? These parents were crucified until they finally did find the person who took her - David Westerfield - a neighbor.

  • #629
Elizabeth Smart WAS NOT kidnapped by a handyman.

Don't get caught up in the term "handyman" as having some precise meaning. There is no specific exam and licensing board for the title.

"Emannuel" was hired at least one day to do odd jobs for Smart, probably more. He was a handyman AND a wacko drifter. The two are not mutually exclusive.

The neighbor interviewed on Today this am notes the man was working next door, and "handyman" could be anyone from a licensed contractor to some guy who does odd jobs for people in the neighborhood.

I see all these comparisons to ES. The big difference is Lisa is a 10 month old baby. Unless this handyman is some perverted disgusting 🤬🤬🤬, what in the world would he do with a 10 month old baby girl? It's not like she could be his "wife" as in the ES case.

I'm struggling with motive on whoever took her. She's a baby!!

ITA with you about the motive. Some posters theorized that it may have been a female IF Lisa was abducted. It is a very good point WHY would someone take a 10 month old ? I can't really see anyone trying to sell her. But, really who knows ? MOO

I see your point but there has to be a limit somewhere on how long an interview can last. Or on repeated interviews.

11 hours is an interrogation imo - not an interview or a question session. LE told mom she was responsible and they knew she did "IT". that is not a question. that is an accusation.

I think LE only got suspicious because he apparently went missing. So they wouldn't be suspicious right from the start.

Was this a neighbor who was a handyman in his profession? I can't imagine that they'd have their own personal handyman since JI is an electrician himself and this doesn't look like a HOA community.

It may be just a guy that everybody knows and they thought he is harmless. JI may well have just known him to BS with and he didn't do work at their house. I'm still thinking that Lisa was handed out of the window to someone and then on the way out the intruder grabbed the phones.

You don't get the point because you are a normal human being. There are all kinds of sick people out there in this world. Although I definitely prefer to think that she was taken by someone who wanted to care for her...IF she was taken...

I would like a tight timeline from lets say... 8am the day of. To include what Lisa and the mom did during the day. i'd like to know what time kid/s out of school. What they had for dinner. what the boys watched for tv. Did mom give Lisa any cold meds? What did she watch that evening. I'd also like to have from LE verification that dad was where he said he was and accounted for during the whole time. Not just that dad has an alibi.
I would also like the spreadsheet for the phones. Times and txts. K too much..?

The children targeted for kidnapping by pedophiles are normally a bit older.

Oh I do get "the point " but, it is, IMO, highly unusual for a predator/pedophile to take such a young child... MOO

FOX is calling him a "neighborhood handyman" right now..

Normally...but there are variations from normal...unfortunately...

I don't think I've ever heard of such a young child being kidnapped by a pedophile. Usually the children are at least 4-5 years old.
