True. News networks do pay for photos/video.

Input "Jose Baez" and "interview" into a google search and see where he gave exclusives.

Wow! Local ABC news here in KC just said they had heard that the last cell ping of one of the missing phones was near to the house. This is the first news of any sort about pings. I continue to wonder if they thought the phones were in that dumpster they were searching the landfill for.

Kansas City is a regional headquarters for federal agencies. My dad worked there for years. The baby disappeared from Missouri and they are searching a landfill in Kansas. It doesn't surprise me that LE would ask FBI to assist.

Just adding a footnote to the discussion of kidnapping, and intrastate vs interstate kidnappings and federal jurisdiction. The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 amended the Federal Kidnapping Act (Lindbergh Law) to expand the federal jurisdiction over intrastate kidnapping with the addition of one small clause.

Kidnapping. The Act expands federal jurisdiction to reach any kidnapping in which the defendant
crossed state lines or used an instrumentality of interstate commerce during the commission or in
furtherance of the crime, even if the kidnapping itself is accomplished wholly intrastate. See 18 U.S.C. §
1201(a)(1). This provision will likely be applied to cases where the defendant used the Internet or made a
telephone call during the course of the kidnapping, thereby effectively federalizing virtually all kidnapping
offenses
. See, e.g., United States v. Giordano, 442 F.3d 30, 39 (2nd Cir. 2006) (telephone, even when
used on wholly intrastate basis, constitutes instrumentality of interstate commerce under 18 U.S.C. §
2425); United States v. MacEwan, 445 F.3d 237, 245 (3rd Cir. 2006) (Internet is an instrumentality of
interstate commerce for purposes of 18 U.S.C. § 2252A(a)(2)(B) regardless of whether images were
transmitted across state lines).

One other thing I'll add about the money payments for pictures and videos the networks make with families of missing persons is that I have no problem with it at all where families do it so they'll have money to hire PIs, print flyers, put up billboards, etc. Sometimes it's the only way they can get the money they need to do these things for their loved one, and I think it's just fine.

It's when I see other things - cruises, new clothing, staying off work and not searching, etc, that it disturbs me tremendously.

It's disturbing me in this case right now because the parents are not talking to LE, and I haven't heard a thing about them hiring a PI, having flyers printed up, having billboards put up, etc, plus they're not talking with the local media and getting Lisa's picture and story out there.

Just my own personal feelings about it.

I guess I never understood why anyone would admit to failing a polygraph test or being told they failed a poly in the middle of an investigation. I don't get it.

I think she's trying to portray herself as a victim. Some people never will admit to a lie.

That makes the situation a little worse. I don't know how other states work but in my states once you are behind by 3 years, your home goes up on the tax sales.

In my state....if you are paying on a mortgage then the taxes are paid as part of the mortgage payment, and the mortgage HOLDER/LENDER makes sure the taxes are paid out of the payments made each month. That way there is never a chance that the property can be sold for back taxes owed, and the lender is not at risk of losing it's investment in the loan.

"Legitimate" news outlets - MSM such as ABC, CBS, and CNN - pay for pictures and videos, all the time.

You see it in so many of these cases. There's the interview with a national outlet, new 'family' pictures are released, then you hear of bills being paid, etc., and later sometimes you get the solid admissions that indeed, $$$$ for pics/videos was paid.

I don't know about CNN, and I despise ABC, but I thought it was pretty clear that CBS News does not pay for interviews or "exclusives". I guess I could try to find a link for that. Are you under a contrary impression? I am just going on vague memory...

Yeah, I can only speak for my system here in IL. Hence the "probably" in my post.

In Missouri, you owe on Dec 31st, for what you owned on Jan 1. So, 2011 taxes are due in 2 months. 2010 taxes were not due until Dec 2010. I can barely believe they have already tried to come after them for that!! I have seen sooo many people much farther behind than that!

Dr F posted a great link to explain this.
When we had our first baby- the monitor that you listen (the one beside our bed) you most definitly could here other things. I could here a father talking to his small child (5-6 yr old) over their breakfast every morning. It is really freaky. Now new technology being what it is may have found away to avoid this. IDK

My daughter just had her first baby 2 months ago and I guarantee you that this girl (and I) studied each and every monitor on the market through consumer reports, so that's the reason I know something about monitors.

On the other hand, when my OTHER daughter had her first child 2 years ago, we could hear (on the baby's side) another baby crying every night. It freaked us all out until we found out that there was another neighbor with a new baby and it was picking this up.

At this point...she is a victim, along with Lisa, of course, and Jeremy, the other 2 children, and their family and friends, until it's proven otherwise.

LE must have picked up something while they were at the house or from the beginning to question her like that, never the less they always look at the family first.A person that has nothing to worry about does not stress out like that, unless they know it is hitting close to home.I know LE can be tough in their line of investigation. If you have did nothing wrong, why turn your back on the people that can help you the most. The media can't get warrants.LE is looking out for Lisa and that's their job.

I don't see that Lisa's parents have turned their backs on LE at all. In fact it seemed like they were contrite and wanting to smooth things over. I felt desperation from the parents in their statement read last night after Young stated yesterday that:

The command center will be closed eventually. Don't know when that is.

Within an hour he tells a reporter that the command center is closing as the result of the parents not cooperating. Then today he states that's not what he meant. Well he said it! IMO, it sounds like LE took the strong arming too far and threatened to turn their backs on Lisa's parents. I know I know that LE has geographically exhausted that area. But Young said what he said. He put the blame squarely on the parents. You don't play ball with LE then we are taking our ball and going home. If these parents are innocent, that's a very cruel thing to do to them.

In the beginning of the video, the reporter states that Mom did tell him if LE calls them at this moment, they'll come in.

And the LE say their door is open for the parents.....

*sigh*

This back & forth, I am---no you aren't----yes I am! bull is getting out of hand. :banghead:

Or LE might believe the cell phone was turned off and buried in the brush nearby the house.

At the vigil tonite, there was a large presence of family and friends coordinating the disbursing of fliers.

I don't know. I feel that the baby was taken and that the problems lies in the fact that one or both of the parents may have knowledge about who took her. I'm not feeling that the parents harmed the child. Just gut....... if there is a lie and I don' t know for fact that there is, I think it is a lie of omission.
