Police: Man went on rampage that left 71-year-old dead, woman beaten inside of Franklin County home
The assault at a Washington, Missouri, home left a 71-year-old man dead and a 50-year-old woman injured.

According to court documents, the man died due to being struck in the head, and information provided by the woman led police to identify the suspect as 43-year-old William Jerald Vedenhaupt of Washington, with whom she was in a "continuing social relationship of a romantic or intimate nature."
