Terrence Chavis, right, searches Friday morning, Dec. 28, 2023, with a group of volunteers for his missing stepdaughter, Marquisha Williams, in north St. Louis. Later in the day, police announced her body had been found. Trenton Ivy, 31, of Flordell Hills, is charged with the killing of Williams, 29.

“We appreciate everything that everyone in this room has done for us — the love and the support, from all over,” Terrence Chavis said at the church. “I didn’t know St. Louis had this. You all are part of our family now."
Williams' father, Marvin Williams, expressed relief at the news of his daughter's discovery, which came around 2 p.m.
“I’m just glad they found her and she can come home,” he said.
Marquisha Williams' aunt, Joy Brown, remembered her niece as a soft-spoken mother of four children with Ivy — one 11-year-old, two 6-year-olds and a 1-year-old. The youngest celebrated a first birthday two days before Williams disappeared, Brown said.
Brown had said earlier Thursday that some family members were holding out hope that Ivy had lied about killing Williams, and that she would still turn up alive.
Thursday's news confirmed the family's worst fears, she said, but it also ended a nightmarish week of uncertainty and allowed them to grieve.
“We’re thankful just to know that she’s no longer out in the cold by herself,” she said.
Williams and Ivy began dating in high school and lived together until this year. Williams left in August after a period of domestic abuse, Brown said.
Williams moved to a new home in north St. Louis County, Brown said, and tried to co-parent with Ivy for the past four months.
The body of a missing St. Louis County woman was found Thursday afternoon, one day after her ex-boyfriend was charged with killing her and disposing of her body.
