St. Louis County police are asking for the public’s help to find a missing man.

Matthew Kirk, 27, was last seen on Aug. 20 around 5 p.m. near Buder North Park in Valley Park.

Police say he last sent a message to a friend that he was swimming in the river at 6:20 p.m.

Kirk, who has a history of mental illness, was last heard from Sunday evening, police said. He was last seen near North Buder Park in Valley Park, Missouri. Kirk*sent a message to a friend that he was swimming in the river around 6:20 p.,m.*

A search of the area did not lead to Kirk's location.

Kirk is described as standing 5'10" and weighing around 165 pounds. He was wearing swim trunks when he was last seen, but the color or pattern of the trunks is unknown.*

Anyone who has seen Kirk or knows of his whereabouts should contact the St. Louis County Police Department.*

Yeah it's pretty dangerous in some areas. They usually warn people not to swim, there are regular drownings ect

I wasn't sure if that was where he was swimming but, I thought it was the closest to that Valley Park area. I have swam in the Meremec several times, usually during a float trip. I'm sure there are some very dangerous areas though.

I may be confusing rivers but I'm pretty sure meremec runs through castlewood state Park, and there are frequent drownings and signs saying not to swim. I swim there sometimes; as long as you stay in water that's not too deep it's usually ok.


I dont know where he was in valley park but my ex used to live in the main little town thing by the levee and as I recall it was not super great (swimming in that area) but it was like 3 years ago so I am not sure

VALLEY PARK (KMOV.com) -

A man missing since Sunday has been found dead by the St. Louis County Police Department and Valley Park Fire Department.*

Police were searching for 27-year-old Matthew Kirk since Monday morning were able to locate his body later that evening at approximately 8:30 pm.

An autopsy was performed on Tuesday*and revealed the cause of death was drowning. *
