MO - Megan Meier, 13, Mentally Abused, Commits Suicide

This story is so sad and shocking. I can not believe that parents would get so involved in middle school squabbles, instigate more problems and bully another CHILD.

Interesting to me I read a comment from a reader on the internet (so take it with a grain of salt :) )that the mom that did this is involved in local politics and "chummy" with local officials. Maybe, if it is true, that could be why no one wants to name the family publically (which i think is rare in newspaper articles unless it is a rape victim?) or start anything against the family? Link...

Isn't this whole thing just disgusting? I read that the mom is chummy with local officals too. Seems she owns a buissness in town. People have been posting her name and address on the internet for a couple days now so I am sure word is getting around. There is also a campain to boycoot this "mother's" buisness.

I predict that there will be a civil suit in which Megan's parents sue for:

1.) intentional infliction of emotional distress;
2.) negligent infliction of emotional distress;
3.) wrongful death

Wow...just wow at those parents. If they did that to my child I swear I would make their lives a living hell.

How long until we see this scenario unfold on a show like CSI or some other crime drama?

I am incensed about this. And seeing Megan's picture on her myspace page made me almost cry. There is a pretty nasty blog out there in repsonse to this saying things like, "Bottom line: she couldn’t hang, and took herself out. It wasn’t as if she was going to make anything of herself, as proven by her inability to handle this prank. " (I don't want to post the link because he says some horrible things about Megan). I hope enough local people contact TPTB and push them into arresting the woman responsible.

Rainbow parties, according to my high school source, is when girls wear different colors of lipstick and the guys try to get as many different colors on their :silenced: as possible. If you have oral sex from enough different girls, it looks so pretty, like a rainbow.

Why do I know that and not you??? That disturbs me.

lol i have no idea!! i cant believe i never heard of that before...im actually a little surprised...i know of alot of other stuff...but not that one!! Maybe its not a kansas thing..lol because i just asked my boyfriend, roommate and her boyfriend and they've never heard of it either...& were definitely not prudes!

ok i just looked at a few of pictures of her...

SHES COMPLETELY ADORABLE AND NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING FAT!!!!!!

I had this image that she was like extremely fat & ugly by all those articles saying things...but shes the complete opposite. Im confused!!

This is so tragic. Teenage girls have enough stuff going on in their minds without an adult making up more problems for them.

I too think that although the mother was really wrong in doing what she did, its really disturbing to think that a grown man got involved in it all too. Thats really weird.

Both these clueless idiots should be punished for their pre meditated evil regardless of their intentions or the fact that Megan had tried to kill herself previously.

What a terrible tragedy. I really hope the perpetrators can be prosecuted on some charge such as harassment or endangerment.

And the girl never did try to commit suicide according to her parents. She talked about it, but didn't try it. There is a difference.

I just wanted to quote Kat here to remind everyone that Megan did not attempt suicide previously, she had only talked about it.

Also, I believe her parents stated that they do not plan to file a civil lawsuit. I just hope criminal charges can be brought against the family. I agree with those who said that this is very irresponsible parenting on the part of the perpetrators.

I haven't stopped crying yet reading this thread for the first time. I am so heartbroken for Meg and her family and so ENRAGED with the other Mother (is she even THAT????)

I hope we can maybe keep this issue going and get the laws changed. Cyber-stalking is against the law already on the federal level (look at all the arrests that have been made so far). Why the HE** is this any different??? IT'S NOT IMO!!

RIP Meg.

The other thread on cyber bullying has a couple of other instances where it led to suicide as well. It really makes you wonder as a parent if you should ever let your children near a computer. Real life is hard enough!

The thought that a parent could engage in this type of behavior is beyond me. It is, as Beyond Belief said, "beyond words".

I agree with you, the mother who perpetrated this is no different than the online predators we read about.

In a way that's good, though.... means at least KC is safe from that sort of sick stuff. I'm at the point right now where I am grateful for every single young person to have made it through childhood safely, and still having to ask questions like that. Means that not everybody and everywhere is f'd up.

I feel so sad on many levels about Megan's suicide.
I just read that her parents have separated and are divorcing. An entire family shattered forever because of a mentally ill adult tormenting a child via MySpace. I wonder how her child or children are going to turn out because of her warped personality.

I hope and pray the day comes when MySpace and all other un-moderated personal sites for teens close!!

Instead of a warped woman taunting her, it could have been a pedophile who flattered and cyberstalked this girl with low self esteem into a situation of rape and murder. I wish Megan's parents had paid closer attention to her distress and found out what the woman was doing.

Kids simply don't have the judgment skills to turn the computer off and walk away from the virtual world.

This is being covered tonight on channel 4 either very shortly or on the next program. (family has it on in the next room)

Sorry, right now nbc news indepth (eastern time zone NE)

Dearest Boyz_Mum,:blowkiss:
I want to thank-you for bringing up the other thread. That is where I first learned of Megan's story and everyone else here should see the story of Ryan and Brian.

All of my Love and respect to you,
