Not to argue, Gordian, but I am not sure the investigation will be so thorough.

Em, the more I think about it, as much as it pains me to say this, I'm not so sure any more now, either.

*ETA: I really do hate to say that.

Nor I.

Here’s the thing though. These were police officers allegedly playing this game. One of them was on duty.

How the hell does this third officer just walk away, and let it happen?

I don’t know, but we haven’t seen his eye yet.

Em, that's uncanny! There's no way you could have known this, but I actually had that quote up on my personal FB profile forever!

It's a quote from "Deep Thoughts" by Jack Handey. SNL. I love it!

You are kidding! I love it, too. Thanks for the author’s info, Gordian.

I’ve said this before and I understand that members can’t read every single post. Generally there is no standard protocol for anything. Police officers are hired with the understanding that they can think on their feet and are not robots. During the hiring process those who can’t make quick decisions are weeded out. An example was the number of people who thought that the kidnapping car in the Jayme case in Wisconsin should have been stopped just because it was headed the other way after a hang up 911 call. Had that question been asked in an interview a lot of prospective officers would have had a strike against them.

Back in my early patrol days I rushed at least two people to the hospital in the police cruiser. One involved a family that had driven a ten year old boy who had fallen into a gasoline-fed trash fire. They flagged me down in a busy intersection and I had two choices, of course the father dumped the boy in the front seat and I drove 100 mph to a hospital that they never would have found.

So yes, I would approve of their decision to drive the officer to the hospital. Had they put her on the flooor and performed CPR I’d have been fine with that also.

That was good of you and, I imagine, very difficult!

Hmmm.. after a high profile attorney led pc immediately following KA's burial mass, I disagree. I don't think they'll not have much choice but to be thorough in this investigation. MOO

How is it an "accident" if they were playing a game that involved pointing a loaded gun at someone and squeezing the trigger?

How is it unintentional manslaughter, if this so-called game involved pointing a loaded gun at someone, and squeezing the trigger?

From what's been reported thus far, the Killer knew full well that there was a bullet in the gun. He knew full well that the gun was being aimed at the victim when he squeezed the trigger. Sounds like 1st Degree Murder, and a cover up IMO.
YES!!

THIS is my #1 question!!!

So many things that my non-legal mind thinks could apply here. Assault with a deadly weapon? Assault on a police officer? And isn't any death resultant from a felony, even if unintentionally, eligible for first degree murder?

Do we have any V Attorneys on the thread?

Yes, luckily, we do! @Mercedes and @PrairieWind .

Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. There is still something MISSING about this whole story.

IMO, the missing piece is the nature of the relationship b/t KA & NH.
And what they were both doing there at his place that night.

I think there’s an innocent explanation to all of this.

Gender aside, these two were simply good friends, who happened to enjoy eachother’s company.

As far as NH is concerned, why not get paid to hangout with your friends?

Watching tv, and doing “normal things,” is soooooooo boring.

I’ll bet there’s no more enjoyable way to unwind, than a little game of Reverse Russian Roulette.

We don’t know what we’re missing...

Thanks for the link to the video of the family press conference. I feel so badly for her family, they seem to still be in shock. Her poor mother still talks of her in the present tense. Also felt badly about her dad saying they were hurt by some of the rumors and hurtful things being said about their daughter in the news, etc. Strong impression that they have no idea what could have happened. They do deserve answers and public support.

Attorney seems extremely competent. He knows exactly how this investigation is supposed to be done and, if done properly, all questions will be resolved. He also seemed very concerned by the conflict and disagreement between the prosecutor and police department. He's not judging anything until more information becomes available. They will get answers about all the evidence, whether blood samples were taken from the shooter and other officer, etc.

ETA: Anyone else think its unusual that Officer Alix's husband was not at the press conference with her family?

<modsnip - rude>
I also agree that RRR is definitely indicative of a "platonic friendship" vs. a hot and heavy romantic relationship.

Not many people I know are turned on by the sight of blood. JMO.

I refuse to treat this ridiculous RRR story with any degree of seriousness.

It is ludicrous.

Timeline established for 2 on-duty officers in the hours before Katlyn Alix was killed
They are now reviewing all of the calls for the last month for this team.
Hendren is suspended, and in jail...Hellmeier is on leave with pay
This is interesting to me, that Hendren is suspended so quickly, and in jail. bbm
Well he was charged with involuntary manslaughter, and armed criminal action last Friday --which both I believe come with suspension and jail -- unless released on bond. MOO

St. Louis officer accused of killing colleague in Russian roulette-like shooting is booked into jail

Wonder if they brought those initial charges quickly just to get him locked up for now and will then look at bringing additional and/or upgraded charges at a later date.

I can't imagine the investigation has been completed yet.

i can address the hitting a head into a windshield. I was in a car accident where i was a passenger i had unbuckled at a light to retrieve my cell phone from floor. a car (drunk driver) hit us from behind. i hit the windshield with my head just above my hair line receiving a subdural hematoma that drained into my eye sockets esp under the eye area leaving me with 2 black eyes for Christmas. i did not break the windshield.

"Liked" your post for the helpful info r/t black eyes, but I'm sorry to hear about your accident, silver survivor....what a scary, traumatic and painful experience for you. Glad you're here!
