Why aren't verbal threats considered assault? And what about invasion of personal space? I find it disgusting that the police have to endure this abuse by bully protestors. Looks more like harassment than peaceful protest. Threatening officers' families, not fair game imo.

CNN: "As protesters [last night] stared down police officers standing in a single file, an announcement came on the megaphone. "If you touch a police officer, you will be arrested for assault," it said."

I'm not sure when this society changed to, "my hero's are felons" mentality.

2 AA shot by police in 62 days. 4 AA shot by AA in 2 days.....

What exactly are they going to win?

I could think of over 100 other causes to march for, this is not one of them.

How about taking all that negativity and doing something constructive with it like, I don't know, helping the homeless, donating time for the elderly, cleaning up the city, having drives to help fight diseases ect ect ect?? Instead of "stop killing our felons" marches.

All of this because someone reported the facts of the case wrong!

What is wrong with America?

Exactly. "Trash talk" is generally, in my experience anyway, a mutually agreed upon exchange of meaningless threats and insults. With both sides willingly participating and both sides knowing that the other side doesn't really mean it.

This was not mutual, and one side was not a willing participant, and the threats sure didn't sound meaningless to me.

What I really don't understand is why the police don't enforce some "personal space" limits -- set up some barricades or police tape or something and keep the protesters and murder-threateners at least a few feet away from the police, if not more. This business of letting the murder-threateners get right in the face of the cops just seems so wrong.

I agree. Allowing the people who are threatening and insulting to get right up in the faces of the LEOs is just asking for trouble. Last night I kept waiting for someone to push someone else into the LEO line which could have set off all kinds of reactions. Last week I saw a photo of the protests in Hong Kong. Police there were using the portable fence-type barriers, and I thought then "why don't they use those in Missouri?" A (canned?) voice over a loudspeaker announcing over and over that if a person touches a LEO they will be arrested is simply not enough.

Once again I feel that the powers-that-be have let down the men and women on the front lines. The highers-up have put the front-liners in personal danger, tied their hands, and forced them to take personal insults that none of us would want to have to withstand. And why in the world people with outstanding warrants are being allowed to wander the streets and incite violence and spew hate is beyond my comprehension.

This whole situation is like a plague left unchecked. The longer it goes with nothing but the slightest of first-aid efforts to quell it, the deeper the sickness will grow and spread.
