State Rep. Jay Barnes said he plans to file legislation during 2015 session that would give the state attorney general’s office the responsibility for determining whether charges should be filed against law enforcement officers who fatally shoot people.

“There’s an inevitable appearance of bias in a case where a prosecutor has to decide whether to take action against an officer who works for an agency that prosecutor works hand-in-hand with every single day,” Barnes, a Republican attorney from Jefferson City, said Monday.

They do realize that being in the very very top rows of the dome, no one saw them and other than the people right in front of them, no one could hear them either. Again, whoever thought these were the most effective means of drawing attention to your cause, well, I'd suggest the highway shutdown was probably more effective at drawing attention.

I agree, too.

And I don't say that just because I don't trust say a McCulloch. But McCulloch (and by McCulloch, I mean him and his office), has to work closely with LE and no matter how professional they try to maintain themselves, it has to put some strain between the two when an officer is charged with anything, especially if it's a close call. So remove that potential impediment between LE and the DA and remove any potential of a perceived conflict of interest. Win/Win if you ask me.
