February 3, 1970: Robert shot and killed his wife, Willa Lee Adams, in their home near the 2300 block of East Broadmoor Street in Springfield.

March 18, 1970: After attempting suicide in Florida, Robert admits to killing his wife.

March 19, 1970: Willa’s body is discovered buried in a ditch on the banks of Beaver Creek.

February 20, 1971: The jury found him guilty of second degree murder and a sentencing recommendation of forty years in prison. He was released on $25,000 bond while the defense appealed his case to the Missouri Supreme Court.

June 1973: While out on bail, he married a German woman in Colorado. He then violated the terms of his release by going to Germany with his new wife to visit her parents.

November 9, 1973: He was taken into custody in Chicago by the FBI upon his entry back into the country.

November 15, 1973: He was taken back to Missouri to begin his prison sentence.

1979: He was transferred to what was then called the Fordland Honor Camp, which is now the Ozark Correctional Center.

March 12, 1981: He was granted a five-day furlough, meaning he was released from prison and was allowed to stay for a while with friends in Columbia.

March 17, 1981: He never returned from furlough and was never seen again.
