MO MO - Sharon Hurley, 24, St Louis, 24 Feb 1981

I think the detective is retired, but, not sure.

I am going to the library tomorrow (raining again today, what is it with rainy Fridays, LOL, although if it leaves the weekends nice I guess all is okay) and see what I can find about arrests and what happened. In the first article it does sound like they had a lead on the threat, and the finger nail gashes on her neck sound like a female was involved. As soon as I know will post!
And I wonder what happened to the 5 suspects.

I'm going to wait to see what J4S has done so far until I do any intensive research. Hopefully she will be able to get in touch with someone willing to help her at the PD or DA's office.

Hi all! I'm local here, to young to remember this case however my dd and I are going to the library in the city tomorrow so I will do some looking while we're there.

so glad everyones still here I was hoping (and kind of not) that the coroners report was here this weekend but it wasnt plus I needed just alittle break but I will get back to answering questions I do relize I am her voice now but like I said before some days are worst than others....
Plus it wasnt alerting me on my email when there was a new post :(...

Hi sweetie.

Take your time. We realize that we all have 'stuff' that get's in the way.
Myself, I do realize how emotional and overwhelming it can all be. Even with cases that are not personal it is often better to take a break and come back at it rested and fresh with clear eyes and mind. There are a lot of people here that have cases that are personal to them. Some talk about them, some don't. I think you will find that a lot of these folks have a common bond whether it be searching for loved ones or searching for justice for their loved ones.

We're here when you need us, even if just to chat. :)

YES, like dsntslp said, take it at your own pace. Don't feel pressured. This is going to be tough for you and if you need to take time to reflect, do it. :rose:

Let me ask, do you have any kind of a support system in your life right now, to help you through this? Friend, partner, family, counselor? WS? lol

J4S take your time to absorb and process the information you've found.

WS will be here for you when you are ready.

Let me share with you what I found on my search. Yes, I was lied to also about my own father.

I found that he had been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic at the age of 19 and put out of the air force. I found that he had struggled with that disease all of his life until he died. I also learned of all chaos that happens in a persons life when they are mentally ill and have a history of being noncomplaint with meds.

The other man that I searched the truth out about was a story that no one in my family wants to hear because they feel it's shameful. I say that's it isn't shameful. It is what it is and we can't go back and rewrite history.

I rarely share on open forum anything as personal as that information above. In fact, I'm not comfortable in sharing that but I felt I needed to because from your above posts you sound confused and hurt and in emotional pain.

The reason I'm sharing it with you is because when we search sometimes we find information about our family members that isn't pleasant to for us to hear. But it is the truth. The truth isn't always pleasant. It is what it is.

Take your time, process the information and come back to us when you're ready. :rose:

DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO soooo frustrating
Hi J4S, just checking in. Is there anything we can be doing for you on your 'to do' list while you are taking some time to gather your thoughts and feelings? Have you checked anything else off your 'to do' list since last week so we know what info to look forward to getting in the near future?

It's important to keep the thread alive and to do that, we need to brainstorm ways of gathering info.

Is there anyone close to your family that would be willing to talk to you about anything they heard about your Mom's life and death? Old neighbors, grandparents coworkers? Any family friends you remember?

If we could find someone that had any info on the 5 suspects, Sharon's best friend or boyfriend. etc... anything that would give us a jumpstart while you are waiting for the coroner's report, it would help a great deal.

This may have already been answered but have you inquired in the local PD's to see if the detective named in the articles is still working or retired?

I hope I don't sound pushy. I'm just very anxious to help you get answers.

Hugs JS4...

I know you have requested the autopsy report-you can also request the case file under the Freedom of Information Act. If this is a cold case that is dead in the water, they should give it to you.

You have to be strong enough to go through the information...You are welcome to share any of it here. We can offer suggestions if you dont want to put it out on the www. There are private areas of WS as well.

Take care!!

And fwiw, looking at her case superficially, it seems as if her murder might have been possibly committed by a "pimp" type person...it kind of has the hallmarks of one of those message kills. :(

So I called coroners to see if they mailed it cause I have not received it she said yes I got your letter but your going to have to give me some time cause they are on microfilm which is in another blg.(hurry up n wait)

Moving on.... I called Saint Louis Mo pd and they say not our case so I called east saint louis il pd and they its not our case so I called the Sauget il pd and he says we dont handle the ramp try Il State police so I call they put me on hold a few times and came back and said staff serg says call District 11 so I called and was told to try another number that handles voilent crimes tomorrow cause they are at lunch and done for the day so hopefully tomorrow:please:

Don't forget to document it all.
I know you won't forget ;)

Hugs

Thank you for that Freedom of Information act came in handy on phone today when i was asked why lol its MY MOTHER.....

If it is a "cold case" and nobody is working it shouldn't you be privy to the particulars at this late stage in the case? Does that area have a "Cold Case" Division? Maybe call and see if you can make an appointment to go in and speak to either the Lead Detective that has the file or request it be reviewed by the Cold Case Team. They really have no way of knowing if it is really "you" at the other end of the line, is what I am thinking may be part of the problem. Obviously, I have no way of knowing, though.

THE PDF you have...am I understanding that you want to email it to somebody to post on your behalf? If so I can help you with that. :)

I work in records for the saint louis city police department and know I can't give out much over the phone, even to other law enforcement agencies, we need request in person, by mail or if LE by fax on their letterhead. We have to be able to verify you are who you say you are. Have you went in person to the East Saint Louis records department to see what you could get in way of a police report. Bring your birth certificate to show shes your mother, you'll get more info and help since you are a next of kin. Also from them you might be able to find out if a detective is assigned to case and get his contact info. Also seeing if theirs a cold case team and contacting them directly is also a good idea.

Thanks for your perspective, lieber. FWIW, I have received several case files even though I am not NOK for any of them. FOIA is pretty broad-PD has to have a pretty good reason to deny it, correct?

Lots to report but........

I am going over the Coroner's Report as a type ill b back As soon as I can........

"uterus is non-gravid and hemorrhagic corpus luteum is noted in ovaries"

Is that me.....

Non-gravid = not pregnant
Gravid = pregnant
http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/gravid+uterus

corpus lu´teum a yellow glandular mass in the ovary, formed by an ovarian follicle that has matured and discharged its oocyte.
http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/corpus+luteum

corpus hemorrha´gicum a blood clot formed in the cavity left by the mature ovarian follicle after its rupture during ovulation.

Basically, she was not pregnant and had just ovulated. IMO

I am sure some of the medical professionals will weigh in as they read what you put up.

My only training is 1st aid and SAR first aid. I helped my mom study for her EMT test and learned a lot but basically I have what amounts to zero formal medical education. I'll try though! :) I have seen quite a few autopsy pics, crime scene pics and reports from both during investigations.

If I post anything that is incorrect somebody will please correct me. :) Please.

J4S, I am so proud of you for tackling all of this. I truly am.

Depending on your comfort level, you can scan it and we can put it on the thread or onto a private area of WS...
