"A second police search of the Independence property of Burrell Mohler Sr., charged with an array of sexual offenses against some of his grandchildren, turned up child incest pamphlets.

Also seized were more adult movies, including a pornographic DVD about having sex with “Grandma & Grandpa,” according to new documents released today."

Good find! I neglected my KC Star-watching duties this afternoon and missed this one.

WTH are "child incest pamphlets" -- recruiting materials for some perv organization -- like the ilk of NAMBLA?

Guess this is just another "unfortunate" stash of pervy reading material....wonder what the family friends will have to say about this....I'm guessing we won't hear much out of them.

Raeann, from the second thread (#185):
Ok...having a little more success on this, here is a VERY VERY strange disappearance of a young man from Kansas in April of 1988.......the area he was last seen in is within an hour or less drive from Independence, Missouri. The dates match, as does the height description for the person the girls described. His weight was 220, but then again, the 300 pound estimate stated by the girls makes little sense anyway in terms of forcing someone that size into a car by one man and three young girls.......

I knew I saw that someplace, but, nevertheless, today I went through all the Charley Project and Doe Network missing persons cases from 1987-89, looking for anyone within easy driving distance from the KC metro area (including the corners of KS, NE, IA, and MO) who could possibly match the description the girls gave of the man they said they helped kidnap. And yes, Raeann nailed it, the case of Randy Leach is the only one which in any way fits the bill.

I realize that, necessarily, the Charley and Doe lists are incomplete as some people go missing who nobody, well, nobody misses, sadly enough, and thus they don't get reported. Anyway, here again is the link Raeann provided to this highly unusual case; one might theorize that Leach, who was 17 at the time he went missing from a wild party in his hometown of Linwood (60 miles from Independence, on the Kansas side) might have hitched a ride to the city and wound up at the Independence Center (though I think LE thinks it's more likely he was killed at the party):

<snip>

INDEPENDENCE, MO - Authorities in Jackson County searched a shed behind an Independence home on Tuesday as the ongoing Mohler child sex crime case expands into the metro area from Lafayette County.

....

On Tuesday, Jackson County Sheriff's deputies told FOX 4 that detectives searched a shed belonging to a family associate of one of the suspects, Burrell 'Ed' Mohler, Jr.

Deputies say that the owner of the shed called authorities and told them that Mohler Jr., was renting the shed and stored a lot of his property inside.

Detectives say that, unlike many previous searches, they did not find any pornographic material in the shed, but they did confiscate journals and old family writings.

.....

Detectives say that media coverage of the case has helped to expand the investigation, saying that many of their leads have come from people who know the Mohlers, have seen the story in the media and have called in tips.

Texas Mist--I hate to say that my first thought was not a very nice one. Anyone who's attended just about any Christian church knows about the religious "tracts" or brochures that are offered near the front door of the church. I remember as a little girl, I liked to "collect" them. That CAN'T be the case. It was just my first thought. I agree, WTH?

I think we must live sheltered lives. I've never seen a brochure such as this. Maybe they are flyers advertising "incest" 🤬🤬🤬🤬. Oh yuck.

Is anyone brave enough to go check out their local adult video store and see if this is the case. We won't tell.

If I picked up a fiction book and started reading what I am reading here about the Mohlers, I would put it down as too gross to read, but also I would put it down because I would say that people like this are impossible in real life. Not even a good fiction story because too improbable.

I am speechless over these bizarre people from another planet.

wfgodot--I think you're on to something. See what I mean about going back and checking and rechecking? I think Raeann hit on something very interesting. Thank you for re-posting this info!! Please, everyone read the report as there's some mighty intriguing stuff on it. For some reason I can't cut and paste from it. Although, Randy has his own website:

http://www.randyleach.com/

"A man named Smith related information from a twelve-year-old girl who had gone with older friends to a gathering. A large bonfire [6 feet in diameter and surrounded by rocks] was made after the party in Linwood. Randy was taken from Linwood, to the bonfire by persons unknown. Once at the bonfire that was attended by 50-70 people, unknown persons stabbed and mutilated Randy. The body was then laid aside and two other males [who objected to the events] were also killed. The two other males attempted to stop the killing of Randy. One of the others killed was a “Danny,” unknown last name. The bodies were not taken away, but supposedly buried in the area. According to the young girl, she and a friend from Basehor or Bonner Springs were there, as well as some other older friends. Mr. Smith went to the area the following day, and found two notes at different locations at the site described by the young girl. He also found a blanket that was partially burned, evidence of the gathering."

There's a lot to check on here. I noted on the charleyproject site that the house where Randy had gone to the party burned down. FWIW, we're dealing with more than one men involved in firefighting. I don't believe for a single second that a high school boy would leave his prize Mustang behind. Somebody horrible got hold of Randy.

Great find (again!). On the Charley Project details (which, incidentally, Meaghan found a way to lock so one can't copy/paste from it, as she said people---not us, but other missing sites or threads---were stealing her stuff whole and pasting it elsewhere), Mr. Leach was said to be so drunk he couldn't walk straight, so maybe he was still disoriented, left the party, and was picked up and driven to the city, where maybe (just maybe) he wound up at Independence Center and thus into the hands of the Mohler tribe. It's a reach, granted, but that's the only thing I can come up with, and Raeann had it scoped out much earlier.

One of the vids online I watched said they found "sexual abuse pamphlets"....guess they just didn't wanna come out & say what the pamphlets were really about.

I know what you mean about the pamphlets at church @ the front door. I collected them, too. :)

No kidding about the sheltered lives...I mean, a pamphlet?? Maybe they were included with the "legal" 'incest 🤬🤬🤬🤬' -- you know like add'l movies or mags that can be ordered from distributor? IDK -- in my mind a pamphlet is 'handout' material but maybe not....maybe they'll tell us later tonite or tomorrow what an 'incest pamphlet' is.

I'll ask DBF if he'll go to a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 shop but I bet he won't do it...he thinks adult 🤬🤬🤬🤬 is sick...I can't imagine him saying 'yes' to asking the clerk "hey, got any incest stuff?" YUCK -- now I'm thinking I can't even ask him to do this!! I already know what he'll say (are you effing crazy??).

DBF has always said he'd do anything for me, but I wouldn't blame him if he said 'no way in he77!!'.

Come to think of it, I don't know what I'd think about any man looking *forward* to researching this....hmmm.

Maybe I'll go in on second thought...although it makes me nauseous to think about what I'd find.

Texas Mist--No, don't have your DBF go--nooooo. We don't want him tainted. I'd almost rather you go with a friend. You could tell the clerk that you are doing "research". I'll bet they hear that all the time.

I have to say that I'm getting really worried about Randy. Linwood, KS is only 45 miles from Independence. That's nothing out in that neck of the woods. There's a lot of really scary stuff on Randy's site. His family must be so worried that he got mixed up with the Mohlers.

human, the grossest & most evil stuff I ever read done to a child was in a book When Rabbit Howls by Truddi Chase....amazing that she managed to survive!! After reading it, it is not hard to believe the most bizarre stories that survivors tell.

I just reread your post, Texas Mist. "Sexual abuse" pamphlets are different than flyers advertising the newest in "Family Secrets" incest 🤬🤬🤬🤬.

I mentioned this to my husband and he reminded me about a find we had a few years ago. I guess I "chose" to forget about it. We bought an older home here in town to use as a rental for a few of our kids. An older man had lived in the home for about forty years. I think his wife had died some years back and his kids had all moved on. When my husband was remodeling it, he came upon a stash of what I would describe as 🤬🤬🤬🤬 pamphlets. They were slick, color copy and they advertised sex toys and videos.

We all found it kind of sad at the time as the poor old guy had lived alone for a long time. I think his daughters had come to the house to clean it out before it sold. Let this be a lesson to everybody!! My husband threw them out but came back a few days later and his plumbers (not to point fingers at the plumbers out there) had tacked them up in the bathroom. I just remember them being really sleazy and looking as if they came from the 70s to 80s. I wonder if that's what was found or if it was really some sort of manual on abusing kids?

Texas Mist,
I agree with Missizzy, please be very careful with your research. Your DBF could end up in a sting. Your safety is important too. I have not looked, but wonder if LE, FBI, or that site Perverted Justice has help. The last one was the site that help "To catch a predator" show on NBC (i think)? Stay Safe!

Though he is thought to have disappeared from Linwood, he also may have been at a party in nearby De Soto, 41.73 miles from Independence. Actually, that whole area (Linwood, Eudora, De Soto, Tonganoxie, Bonner Springs), while the towns are small, is so close to the KC metro sprawl that the towns can be considered suburbs, with plenty of commuters---wasn't quite that way in '88, but almost; back then, they were more like exurbs. Now, everything from Lawrence east is, basically, part of the KC metro area, albeit with farms and lots of greenery and scenery. It's hilly, too, unlike what most think of when they think "Kansas."

ITA w/ you & MissIzzy....I don't want him involved in this stuff...he gets upset about kids being mistreated or neglected anyway.

For instance, last Friday nite he was a reeeeeally nice guy & gave a ride to some young (early 20's) people we know to Brenham...that's 2.5 hours from here & it was pouring down rain....they stopped at the Dairy Queen to wait on a woman from Houston (Brenham is pretty much halfway between Austin & Houston)....anyway, he waits there for 30 minutes & the woman shows up w/ a 2 month-old baby to pick up her friends.

When he got home he was sooooo upset that the woman was out driving at nite in the rain with a baby....he went on & on about it -- he was so upset!! He said she left her 3 yo @ home with the dad, but didn't want to leave the baby, but he just couldn't get over her doing it at all. Bless his heart.

He really is a nice guy -- and you're right -- I don't want to give anybody any reason to look at him for doing anything 'hinky'.

(And he's been throwing up since we got home, not feeling too good so now is definitely *not* the time to bring this up.)

O/T Watch that tummy ache of his. My boy (ok, he's a grown man, still my boy) has that and it isn't pretty, fever, etc. Lots a soup and 7up around here. Take care of that kind man. Don't you catch it either. :)
